Anyone know of a kit or instructions on eliminating license holder on 2001 M2?

That is the first thing I did when I brought my bike home. I actually did it with a razor blade.

If you look at the stock plate holder: just under the tail light is a "line" to cut on. I will try to post a picture later, it is really easy to do. The place that I am telling you to cut follows the same lines as the tail section for the M2. Take a step back and you will see.

-After its cut, you can mount the plate on the under/backside of the housing that holds the turn signals. Drill a couple of holes the same size as the license plate holes.

you can see the line right above the stock turn signal. It is hard to get any more off than that b/c how how the brake light sits there. I think this is the quickest/cheapest way to go.
Also, you will have to drill holes and mount the turn signals higher up.

I think the Banke kit does just that, as far as I know, it's still available from American Sport Bike. Gets rid of the whole plastic thing, with a neat little aluminum box. See the pic in my profile for what mine looks like.

You can also cut off the plate-holder part of the plastic and replace it with either aluminum or carbon-fiber plate-holder, like the Storz aluminum one, or the carbon-fiber one sold by American Sport Bike.

As far as instructions... in the words of Mr. T when giving instructions to his barber, "Just follow the lines, fool".

This is how I did mine...

I tapped the holes for the bolts holding the license plate on so I didn't need nuts.

Beware: The license plate potentially becomes a scythe that can gut you in a catastrophic accident when it's pointing out there like that. I'm going to revise this in the future.
