Best till last. Valve could be bent?????
Sorry the pix aint very good (again). The cylinder and piston looked OK at first but on the pic the piston looks burred, I'll take a closer look once I get some time again. New valve for definate. I'll post again once I get a new one (could take weeks to order) and it's back together again. enjoy........Fulgur. |

HI all, Manged to get a few hours free today. Lapped in a new valve and got the engine mostly back together. Now we have two running pots. .Only a short test so I am not sure that it runs good, just runs. Next chance I get I will be connecting everything up, putting a 34 tooth primary cog in, new fork oil, LED rear light, oil temp gauge and a few other bits 'N' bobs. So plenty to do. Then I will know if the operation was a success. Laters all ...... Fulgur. |

Quick update:- Put it all back together. Runs and goes like stonk BUT big dinging noise like a piston wants to free itself from its prison. So, next time I am back home I will check out the reason for the noise (probably the rear piston as thats the one that took the hit). Moral to this story - If your engine takes a serious hit like this, don't try to do short job cuz you are desperate to ride. I took the chance that the other stuff would be OK and I can be riding by tea time. Deep down I knew this is not the way of things and so I pay the price of not riding a bit longer. Check/rebuild it all out as they aint so strong. By the way, dose anyone know? Whats with the 50s tech' in the engine? shouldn't the cams etc run on bearings by now instead of bushings? Anyone with more engine knowledge know if there is a good reason for this? Laters......Fulgur |

I have taken a deeper look and it's worse that I thought. One piston and one big end is screwed too. .....Fulgur. |

Turns out that the crank was toast too, the crank pin and the bearings have been ground down (pix to follow). So I now have a new crank in it. Couldn't just replace the crank pin and bearings as it is a sealed unit now days, I don't think this is a move in the right direction but there you go. Can't say I am happy that I have serviced and taken good care of the bike from new and before 40,000km just about the whole engine is chewed up. So - new crank, new valve, new cam-gear, new this that and the other, x-hatched the cylinders and now once I have the piston rings I will put the top end back together. |

Ouch! Those cranks are not cheap. I need on for my Cyclone, there's always something that needs the money more than my M2.. |

I got let down on the piston rings so a stock set went in. Cometic gaskets all round and the bike is back together. Went for the first test ride yesterday and everything feels, sounds and goes strong. I snuck a smaller (34T) primary in too. Petty it took so long but I was trying to not purchase a new complete crank and just get the pin and bearings, it wasn't to be though. So the good news is that I am back on the road again and ready to destroy the egos of anyone who don't make a perfect line down the twisties. ....Fulgur. |
