Kinda what the title says, little history here. About 3-4 months ago I slid into a gravel spot, and dumped my bike (about 10mph,turning and never saw the gravel). I've had to let here sit there till I got new grips foot peg and brake handle. Well I got all this stuff and all went in fine I went to fire my baby up then my co mechanic screams for me to stop, I look down and it is siting in a puddle of gas. We took off all the air box and we found what looks like a L nozzle sticking out of the Throttle body. It looks like there was a hose there but I looked around and found nothing. Was there a cap on it? If there was a hose what did it connect to, and does anyone have any ideas where it might have gone?

I did start it post crash once before, on the same day. just to double check for problems and this didn't happen.

If I am not mistaking, that is your crank vent. It is simply open like that, it vents oily steam from the crankcase into the intake. It's routed that way from the factory. It's the cleanest least grief setup, but it costs a couple HP.

If this was a carb bike, the problem would be obvious, a little bit of something holding the needle off the needle seat and gradually allowing the cylinders to fill with gas. That gives you hydrolock at startup, which can bend a valve (liquids are not compressible).

Are you sure it was gas? And are you sure it was from the crank vent?

There is a gas tank overflow tube, that comes out somewhere above the exhaust. If I top my tank off completely I can get a puddle of gas from that. Maybe your get off got some gas in there somewhere and it finally decided to burp out.

There is also a tranny vent, which will burp primary fluid if you over fill it. That could have held a squirt or two since the lay down as well, but that would be hard to mistake for gas.

Did it leak any before the bike was running? The fuel pump pressures up at ignitio, so any broken fuel lines should have shown up then.

Is it possible for an injector to "leak" or get stuck open? I never heard of it happening, but it sounds plausible.

yep I'm sure it was gas but no I am not sure it came from the crank vent. one of the injectors were covered with gas residue but the other was fine. I am thinking that it might have been a O ring from the injector on the way out and letting it sit there for that long didn't help it, and it finally gave up. It was far too much gas to be a burp. It is going to Harley on Tuesday so we will see. Bye Bye Christmas fun.
