I'm noticing a leak seeming to come from around the shifter. I was out of town for a week and when I got back there was about a 2" spot under that area. There is some sludgy material around where the shifter meets the transmission. Any ideas? More than likely I will take this to the shop for now rather than work on it myself. There is a small O-ring gasket with a spring that seals that area. It's a cheap part but you need to pull the primary cover to replace. If you don't have a service manual, take the bike to a shop. | ||

Lake, The seal can be replace without pulling the primary. I've done it a number of times. You need a small seal hook. It doesn't matter if you trash the old seal, just don't gouge the case or scratch the shift shaft. When you install the new seal, cut off the corner of a baggie and place it over the splines. Apply a bit of oil on the seal and baggie corner then slide the seal over the splines. I use a deep socket to seat the seal. Sorry, I dont remember which size. Select a size that barely fits in the seal recess. Works like a charm! Brad |
