You are calling Mobil a liar then. Is that what you are saying? So Redline's marketing spiel is gospel, but Mobil's is a lie? |

You are calling Mobil a liar then. Is that what you are saying? I believe that I have answered that above. Yes, I believe they are lying and I can't PROVE it in a court of law. As a consumer, I don't have to prove it, I just have to stop buying their product. I am also allowed to tell others not to buy it too! So Redline's marketing spiel is gospel, but Mobil's is a lie? You no read so good (you are ALWAYS saying that!). I said that Red Line's website is great wording if you want to be clear what is in your oil. Compare and contrast that to the M1 line on their website. WEASEL words all over the place. I used to believe Mobil because their wording used to be very direct and clear. Moreover, their used oil data used to be among the best. No more. Of late, their UOA tend to be average at best. BTW-GC stands for Gas Chrom. analysis. I believe you read about this on BITOG. |

"Of late, their UOA tend to be average at best." Based upon how many reports and of what credible independent origin? I don't have any idea of the credibility of "NJ Tom" or his "GC" reporting. I cannot dismiss the possibility that he is not credible and that he may well have ulterior motives for impugning Mobil-1 products. I do know that Mobil is an extremely reputable lubricant manufacturer/innovator with a worldwide reputation for excellence and integrity in their product. I do not believe that you are in any way qualified to make any kind of determination as to the integrity of their statements or of the quality and performance of their product. I cannot imagine the arrogance required for a wholly unqualified individual to publicly declare that Mobil is lying about their product. Mobil oils are certified for use on commercial and military jet aircraft. Redline oils are not. That says a lot. |

More precisely, I should say that "Mobil oils are certified for use as primary engine lubricants on commercial and military jet aircraft. Redline oils are not." |

UOA indicate a decline in the quality of M1. Indicate? So there's no real proof then. Rocket |

Blake, you are hilarious in this post. I keep saying the same thing and your upset grows. Get over it. If you think ExxonMobil is the bastion of truth and integrity, good for you. I am not arguing with you on a point that can't be proven and I have indicated what data I have. Follow it or don't, I have said repeatedly that I don't care what oil you use in your bike. Having said that, I expect this post to disappear soon because what you really have in mind is to censor an opinion that differs from yours. And be clear, I have simply stated what I know or have been told, not what I KNOW to be true. Fact is, Mobil knows how hard it would be to pin this issue down. They know because they have been down this road with Castrol years ago. It must piss them off that Castrol has been selling make believe syn for 10 yrs at M1 prices. If you want to sit here and defend EM with NO PROOF that they in fact selling genuine synthetic oil, hey, it is your sandbox. BTW-I find it funny that now that guys on BITOG have turned on M1, you are questioning their them. You yourself have used these guys as a way to back up YOUR own arguments about oil in the past. Hey, whatever the burr is up your saddle on this issue, it is what it is. Take a chill pill and a drink of M1. I am riding the Red Line train thanks. And it is interesting that you have never addressed the issue of M1 change of wording on their website. Fact is, it is LAWYER speak all over the place. You know and I know it. |

I have been happy with Castrol Syntek. I understand ( read, heard, and it might just be rumor )that in the 1990's they changed the (full) synthetic formula to one that while still touted as "full", was not. The crud still passed SD rating, & seemed to work fine so I still use it, when it's available & other "synthetics" are not. ( or I don't like the label colour or something ) It would not surprise me the the marketing dept. is more full of it than usual at Mobile. I suspect their oil is ok, even so. Redline & Amsoil have a good reputation for their products, not their marketing. I had oil leaks like crazy, back in the 70's, in a V-8. Now I know why. If H-D Syn3 is made by Citgo, I think I have Chavez issues, or was that grapes??? At 3 bottles a change, ( or 5 ) by all means use the goo that makes you happy. I figure 5K miles in a minivan is ok, about 2-3k in a performance machine. |

There seems to be several points of disagreement in this thread. First we need to establish what constitutes synthetic oil today. Second we need to do likewise from several years ago. Third we need to offer a comparison between one and two. Fourth we need to establish how the result best suits our intended use. Fifth do we really care how the product is marketed providing the product is improved? Sixth if the product is improved but is based on a change in the way synthetic was originally formulated is there a lie to be exposed and if so what are the implications of the lie where the product is concerned. Answers on a postcard please........... Rocket |
