Ok I have an X1 with a D&D pipe. The stock pipe had a divet in it to allow the Trans oil bolt to come out and drain. Has anyone with the same setup done a trans oil change? I dont want to start removing it and find it wont come off all the way and have oil all over. Just need to know if there is clearance or if I need to drop the exhaust? Thks |

It is possible to get the drain plug out without dropping the exhaust. The drain plug won't just fall out though, you have to back it out all the way, then reach under there and tip it sideways, then it'll slide out. Also, drape some tinfoil over the muffler and make a little trough out of it that the oil drops into your drain pan instead of running all over your D&D. |

A couple of other suggestions: A half-gallon plastic milk jug makes a terrific and reusable tool for catching and aiming trans oil to a catch pan. Cut the jug so that you have a catch pan with 3/8 to 1/2 inch sides and retain the spout and finger loop. The pan will catch the oil, the sides will keep the oil from sloshing over onto your exhaust, the loop can be twist-tied to your shifter to hold it in position, and the spout will direct the oil to your drain pan. You won't spill a drop. When screwing the drain plug back into the tranny, it's very hard to get the threads started with so little finger clearance. The best tool is a 3/4 or 1 inch putty knife. Using the blade to hold the plug level, press it upward so that the plug is held against the tranny, and then use the fingers of the free hand to turn it. The threads will engage in just a one or two tries. |
