I am a new Buell owner and noticed scuff marks on my chin fairing after a recent ride. It looks like the tire is hitting the fairing somehow...I am at a loss as is dealer I bought the bike from. I only have 350 miles logged on so far, so naturally I am a bit concerned. I tried cleaning it without much luck. While at the dealership, I saw a used model with the same issue. I am wondering if anyone has seen this or knows the cause?

I love my Buell and want to know more about them from those who know them best.

Thank you.

I had the same mark. Like road tar. Ended up using steel wool to get it off. I too am curious as to what it was.

Quite a few with the XB12X had noticed a rub on the chin fairing from the tire. Buell for '07 has a revised chin fairing that gives the front wheel a bit more room to the chin fairing.

Do a BadWeb search and you'll find lots of info. Mine does it but not to the extent where I am concerned.

I had the same marks on my chin fairing. Im pretty sure it was tar and road grime. I pulled off the whole thing cleaned it up with tar remover and steel wool. Then I used black Crylon fusion spray paint to cover the upper tan portion. It does not match but it covers the stain that wouldnt come up and is close enough. Plus the fact its not a gloss coat prevents chipping. It looks pretty good. I would of done it even with out the marks.
