I tried to install a Jardine on my XB9R today, and it kicked my ass. First, the S bend bracket that came w/ the pipe would not fit no matter how hard I tried. I can’t see how it could. I decided to try to use the mounting spacer that was supposed to be for the XB12 and it almost fit, but still not quite. When I tried to force it, the bolt stripped. Then I decided to try mounting it from the rear first, and sliced my thumb on the clamp. It’s not stitches worthy (I think) but it bled like crazy. It’s 11:30 pm and I have a 5am shuttle to the airport (and of course I have not packed yet) so Jardine won this round. Could someone who has installed a Jardine on a 9 speak up and give me some pointers on how they did it? Pics would be great too if you’ve got them. |

you have to trim the front mounting tab at the top of the bracket. it is not cut exactly right. i had the same problem of it not fitting properly. cut the top of it at the mounting hole towards the rear it is hitting the engine case. sorry have no pic to show exactly were to cut it. just take the header adapter pipe put it on and look at were it mounts to the engine you should see were it is not aligned properly. good luck and have fun once it is installed. |

That's what I figured, but it pisses me off that it is not cut right. I don't have the tools to cut it myself. If I did, I could make my own muffler. It's not like the the Jardine is a complicated design. (Message edited by cereal on September 05, 2006) |

Cereal, I just had the Jardine installed. I'm told that the reason you lost the battle is that Jardine doesn't actually make the pipe for the 9. They say they do, but it's made to fit the 12 and the bracket needs a modification. Sounds like Ctyxrnr gave you exactly the right advice. Try hard to get it on 'cause you will absolutely love it!! |

I ground the bracket down, but the hole still does not line up unless I force the header further from the engine (about .25 inches). The bracket also does not lay flush so if I do get the bolt in there and tighten it, the headers would also be pushed slightly to the left side of the bike. This obviously puts extra stress on the header bolts where they mount to the heads. Any thoughts? Is this normal? I tried to send feedback to Jardine on their web site but it doesn't work. I guess that's the best way to avoid bad customer comments. Does anyone have pics of how that bent pipe mounts on a 9? Every close up pic of a Jardine I can find is covered by the chin fairing. |

Okay, so now I've got that front s-bend bracket on my 9 using the spacer the instructions say are only for the 12. But now I can't get the bolt through the muffler strap and bracket at the rear. WTF? Am I retarded? (don't answer that) As far as I'm concerned, the instructions aren't worthy to wipe my a$$ and the mounting hardware would be better off being used to weigh down the news paper in my recycle bin. Has anyone on this board installed one of these on a 9? I got pics from Bake on a 12 and it is really different. Do I have to drain the oil and move the hoses out of way?

Cereal, I went through pretty much the same thing about 6 months ago when I installed my Jardine. Sometimes the cheap way isnt always the best way. Once you get it installed though, you'll enjoy it. That being said.... YES you do have to remove the oil lines to remove the half moon that went with the stock muffler, then using the Jardine supplied hanger bracket you have to bolt it all up again with the jardine pipe. If you havent gotten it figured out by the end of the day I'll be back tonight and I try to explain a little better. Good Luck! |

I did remove the oil lines to remove the stock muffler mount, then I mounted the Jardine mount, re-installed the lines, then refilled the swing arm. Now I can't bolt the muffler hanger to the bracket because the lines are in the way. I'd rather not drain the oil because it has 0 miles on it. That's were I'm at now. |

Done. If anyone plans to try this install, DO NOT FOLLOW JARDINES DIRECTIONS. I had to attach the muffle to the rear bracket while removed from the bike, remove the vent hose only, wiggle the muffler in, attach the rear mount to the motor, put the springs on the font, tighten the bolt that holds the muffler to the mount, then re-attach the vent hose.
