I have an '06 Lightning XB12Ss and my twin brother recently purchased an '06 Triumph Speed Triple. We're pretty competetive with each other so when he got the triple I noticed the specs on it are a little better than my bike. Is there any reasonably well priced and easy to install way to get my bike up to the horse power and 0-60 that the triple will do? I know the top end performance will never match the triple's but I've seen some Lightning's on this website posting 115 hp on the dyno which is more than the 110 the triple posts on the dyno. I'm assuming this would mean a quicker 0-60 as well considering how close the two bikes are factory. Is this expensive to do? I have a limited knowledge of motorcycle mechanics and I realize that this is kind of petty but I'm quite interested in how possible a "boost" is for my bike. Thanks. |

You would need to add about 30hp to the rear wheel in order to get that hp. Since it's a V twin and you have the benefit of added torque though, you may be able to get away with an additional 20hp and possibly match its' acceleration. My suggestion is to add a race exhaust, open air box with filter and have it tuned with direct link. Adding a race ECM just won't be enough, IMO, to squeeze out those last few hp needed to accomplish that. |

Just put your money into suspension upgrades and some better brake pads, you will leave him in the twisty stuff unless he is the better rider.I ride with a bunch of Triple owners and have no problem hanging with them on my S-2. I also have a Triumph Sprint ST and owned a Daytona 955 so have some insight into these bikes. If you really feel the need for more power after those mods get hold of Al Lighton and talk about what works. |

My 06 Speed Triple made 117 RWHP and a broad 73 ft-lb with a slip on and dyno tune. The stock gearing on the Triumph is 11.2/1 in 1st gear, 4.38/1 in high gear. My Ulysses is 9.56/1 and 3.61/1. 2 different drive trains. I think a naturally aspirated Buell that would run with the water cooled, higher revving triple would end up being a pain in the ass to own. The Speed Triple has decent suspension and brakes but still doesn't handle as quickly as the Buell. I end up taking the Triumph to the track, the Ulysses is replacing a K1200GT BMW for around town and on the road. |

You have to also remember that if he has any idea you are adding mods, he too will do the same and will once again be ahead of you in performance, and you'll be right back where you started...in his rear view mirrors. I'm with firemanjim, be a better, more daring rider, and you'll always beat him!!!} |
