I have a question for anyone out there. I have a 99' X-1 and recently the rear brake reservoir is losing fluid. I don't know if it is the rear hose (double sleeve) that is leaking but I rode today and when I got off the bike, the brake fluid was all over the place! I wiped everything down and then went home to find that more fluid was leaking and I never used the rear brake coming home! I don't want to pay Harley 75 dollars for an assessment and then pay more for it to be fixed. Can anyone give me any ideas what might be the problem and can I order the parts and put them on at home? |

Well, first step would be to find out where it's leaking from; Do a thorough cleaning of the entire area - remove bodywork if you have to in order to get good access and a good view of everything. When all that's in order and all is clean and dry, spend some time with a flashlight looking over every inch of the system. If that doesn't reveal beginning leak anywhere, try activating the brake pedal and see if any fluid squeezes out anywhere. Once you see what's leaking you can fix or replace what needs it. Find the problem before you start throwing $$ at it. IMHO Henrik |
