Bwolcott,
I just replaced my X1 filter with
Napa #3032 $3.99. I cut off the stock clamps with a pair of diagonal cutters. Buy some new hose clamps and if you want to go a little deeper buy some F.I. compatible 5/16 fuel line. Oh, and some black tieraps to hold down the filter.

do you have to drain the tank like the book says? or can i just disconnect it and have a little gas come out?

There's some pressure in the line but not much. I did remove the tank to get better access to the fuel line. I completely replaced the line while in there. You can get away without removing the tank but it's a little tight. I cut the line at the filter and it just drained out what was in the filter and line. You can catch it in a cup. No further fuel came out of the tank.

Ir it's injected, unplug the fuel pump and start it and let it run until it dies. This will relieve the pressure in the line. kind of dangerous if you don,t do this first.

i did it a while ago, just unscrewed the hose clamps. tried to catch the gas but it ended up on the driveway (not alot at all) then replaced the filter, redid the hose clamps, hosed off the driveway and that was it... couldn't be easier
