Just wonder IF one was to put this 1450 kit on all other mods being equall, what wd. ya all think the torque increase wd. be?
Wd one expect 15,20 lbs. more in torque or???

You like those large displacement Buell's dont' you? :>;)

You mentioned having a 5" stroker, is that a Buell? And what's the displacement on that?

Here is a great page for looking at the HP and, in some cases torque, from various hopups on the 1340cc EVO's, that will give you some idea:

http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hplist_evo80.htm

And here's the page for the Sportsters and Buell 883's and 1203's:

If by "all other mods being equal" you mean that they would be matched to the engine via cams, head-work, throttle body, EFI or carburetor upgrade, and performance exhaust, then I'd expect an 88" (1430cc) Buell to make over 110 LB*FT of torque on a dynojet inertial dynomometer.

Did you see the dyno charts on the Revolution Performance web site?...

http://www.revperf.com/artman/publish/article_21.aspx

Two of them are for 88" kitted engines.

HEy JAckbequick,
No its on a 97 softtail that I built it was a s&S gear that I had put together and oversized pistons, hemi out the heads Dual plug the heads etc. it now works out to 1701 cc`s and its one Torque monster to say the least.
best way to describe it is IF I hit WOT I`m up and gone leaving the boys on their rides like a 1/4 mile ahead within seconds...
But Don`t ride it much in the past 2 years since I bought my 04 xbr I`m Buell crazy now LoL..
No Blake my mods at this time are just TFI stock 12 header and Force can ( have complete Beson Ti system as well to go with if needed ) just race ecm, open air box K&N filter.
Just wonder IF I leave stock cams etc.I wd. port and polish the heads Just wonder if I wd. get over the 100 lbs. Torque to the rear wheel IF I bolted on the 1450 REV kit??
I got over 30,000 on here now and she fires right up and goes where I want at this time , I really don`t want to lose any depenabilty and just wonder with the 1450 kit where approx: I may be at, If anyone knows

I have 86 ftlbs of torque on a 1250 xb with stock cams, port and valve job.

You should easily be able to hit 110 ftlbs with a 88" kit and stock cams.

The RP110(?) cams you be able to net you even more.

RP110 what are these rev. performance...
I think it I was going to go with cams I wd. get the 585 or 630 `s....
So you just had the heads ported and polished yourself all valves etc. are stock??
Which cyls. have you used Rev`s. or others and pistons wiseco`s or??
Been told that S&S pistons are all Wisecos...Or how ever ya spell it..

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/148752.html?1137447326

here are the details complete with build sheets. and my mis-spelling of Terry's name.

The motor was built before I bought the bike so I do not have all of the details, but I
think the valves are stock size and material with seats cut on a serdi machine and porting
and polishing. Compression is 11.43:1 (93 octane a MUST)

Hmmm. Well I thought perhaps some of the sponsors wd. maybe chime in here about what to expect with just installing the 1450 kit as far as torque is concern... with regards to what has been said here now...

You could probably pick up 10 or 15 lbs of Low end torque(everything else being stock-ish). Truthfully, we would never do anything like that. Like fingernails on a chalkboard to a place like Cycle-rama. I understand your curiosity though. Let's keep this theory only, please....(stock)blasphemy...sheesh

Mine makes only about 118 ft lbs with a Cycle-rama open exhaust. But I am at almost 160 HP.

(Has)anyone figured out how to feed fuel sufficiently AND reliably enough so that i might run 3-13/16" bore and, say, zippers 585 cams in my XB12?? roads will soon be iced up here, and engine is very likely to be removed for inspection.
Making a screaming pile of Horsepower from the sportster is no problem, I have one that scares the crap out of me everytime i twist it (in a good way). the challenge is to do this within the confines of the XB platform.

Seems like the Direct Link and some bigger injectors would do the trick, maybe bore the throttle body a bit. Hopefully the experts will chime in. This issue is very interesting to me too.

Hogs - I guess to answer your question in somewhat exact terms the answer would be yes. You can break 100 ft/lbs with "all things being equal". The issue becomes one of mechanical advantage though. Let's back up a minute. Say your engine has stock heads, stock cams, 40CV and a V&H slip-on and is in a perfect state of tune. With said parts and said tune the bike makes 90 rwhp and 85 ft/lbs. Again, we are talking about peak numbers. Not an accurate reflection of the area under the curve. In dyno speak that is the characteristic of the parabola leading up to the peaks and beyond the peaks. Cool? Now, let's also say the you have a set of heads that are physically at their limits regarding the amount of power that they can produce with regards to the other components that affect them (i.e. cam dynamics, exhaust, intake dynamics, etc.). Now we go and up the displacement from say 1200cc to 1450cc and leave everything else alone. Also of note is that the mechanical compression ratio did not change so no pressure dynamics have changed either. Only swept volume. All you have done is apply a longer stick to move the same load that was there before. What will happen is that you see a large jump in tq and hp "under the curve" but because you didn't do anything peripherally to take advantage of the displacement peak horsepower will not change dramatically. An example would be something like an end result of 95hp and 101ft/lbs as peak numbers but belying the fact that you have seen large gains everywhere under the curve. You just don't have any more peak cylinder fill capability at redline then you did before. God, I hope this makes some semblence of sense. It even sounded to me like I was rambling.

Fullpower - Terry Parsley at Vallejo and Al Lighton at American Sport Bike have done more work regarding the Direct Link management system. The only issue so far has been that the system has to be tuned to some pretty exact parameters to completely benefit from it. Once this occurs though the rewards can be great. A great example is TP's Uly with 104 hp with only a pipe, airbox mod and the DL system.

Terry is also working with a fuel pressure regulator with more pressure and higher flowing injectors.

Revperf - Thanks for providing insight into this type of engine build... exactly what I'm considering. Makes it sound like humble goals of 100hp + 100 ft-lb and improvements under the curves overall would be achievable without big compression bump. Would like to use some stock parts, big bore kit, 12 crank (I've got a 9). Can I call you to discuss work required, etc.?

Hi all,

sorry if I reopen an old discussion on this issue but i'm very entrylevel on.

I have an XB12S with next mods installed:

F.A.S.T.
D&D exhaust
Heads from Hot Performance
Rapid Bike ECM.

I'm very interested to buy a NELLIN 88" big bore kits.

With stock cams and only with a complete bore of cases how is the performance increment i can expect?

And the duration of the engine life?

Many thanks

regards

Charlye.

Charlye and Hogs
i come from similar set (xb12 race kit open air box and rapid-bike) and i went to rev-perf 88" with : heads porting, roller rocker arms , bored throttle body , race ecm and muffler , rapid bike , stock cams and valves with just a little bit more pressure on valves spring and other mods not regarding the engine.i pretty satisfied of the power gain but is not really easy to tune the ecm/rapid-bike it take some time and a lot of test rides but after a month ( i'm doing it in my free time) the bike looks run fine and the increment in torque and power is really big ( even to much torque).
i start this project to make a race (only) bike but now i realized that for a race bike maybe the xb9 platform (short stroke) was better . i'm using the ecmspy also and i'm really happy with it tps reset afv reset and a lot of informations ...but to handle the fuel and timing values i'm still using the rapid-bike module.
in the past i tested only one 1430 with tfi and h.p. muffler ( everything else stock) ...big torque big power but even lower rpms than a stock 1200 . my 88 even with a very "long gearing" 20 front and 45 rear (2.25:1) looks going up very fast.... really faster than my modified 1200 with stock gearing until 6900/7000 rpms .
if you have other questions i'll be happy to answer you ...but you know there are people here really more experienced than me in performance v-twin engines ...i'm just a curios who like to learn ...and to work on my bike(and my friends bikes).

bye Alessio
