I am building a custom bike out of some Buell parts and I need some help. I want to use an XB front wheel with the perimeter rotor. So I have a set of Showa XB forks and front wheel. But I am using aftermarket tripple trees. The XB forks taper down to 52 MM from 54 where the stock trees are supposed to grab the fork leg. The problem is that when I position the forks where they need to be so the bike sits level, the lower tree isnt placed in the spot where its 54 mm anymore. So after looking at a front end from an X1 or S3 it looks like from the top of the fork untill the lower tripple clamp, it doesnt taper at all. Also are these forks 54mm? I assume they are. Can someone verify this for me? If someone can also provide me with the length of these forks X1, S3 (from top to bottom and also top of upper tube to bottom of upper tube) I would appreciate it. If this is the case, I can buy a set of those, have the lowers swapped out with the XB fork lowers so I can still utilize the front wheel and brake assembly. Did I make sense or is it clear as mud?

The XB lowers will not swap into the X1/S3 upper tubes. It is an interference fit when you try that causes the forks to bind up.

Have you looked at having a "double clamp" style lower triple made? The lower triple would be a three peice deal that clamps the fork tube with a shallow depth U-clamp with paired or tripled bolts on the left and right side of the fork tube. This way you can still have the top clamp to the 54mm tube, and the lower will clamp to the 52mm without out having to try and get the 54mm end thru the 52mm opening in the lower triple...is that clear as mud? : )

I want to lower a XB9SX so my wife can ride it. Anyone know if the suspension parts can be swapped with those from a XB12Scg to lower the city X a couple of inches.
