OK, fellers -- I've got a baker chain conversion on my Y2K M2 -- the output tranmission shaft sproket loosened up a tad (bout a 64th of movement), so I figured I'd just not tightened it right (though I sure thought I had) -- took off the lil allenhead both that keeps the big ol nut for loosening, removed the (stock) nut -- cleaned the threads on the output shaft and nut thouroughly, put the nut back on, tighten it to spec, followed by the lil allen head bolt that keep the nut from loosening -- bout 300 miles later, the sprocket was loose again -- nut didn't SEEM to have moved (retaining bolt still in place) -- I've been through this passion play three times, now -- the guy at Baker sez my output shaft bearing may be moving? can anyone aoffer any insight? thanks! |

I remember Reep not liking that bearing much. There is supposedly a dust seal you can pop off once you have the output sprocket off. The bearing should be in clear view once the seal is off. You'll need to have a seal replacement handy as I believe they're single-use only. Henrik |

H -- I remembered the same -- bearing looks OK, but thanks for the reply -- btw, the seal may be multiple use for really graceful people -- needless to say, I had a replacement on hand, and needed it ;-} |

Hm, I've got no clue. Which way is the sprocket moving--in and out on the shaft, or back and forth in the bearing? rt edit: Never mind, you answered that question on the other thread. I'll discuss it there. (Message edited by road_thing on July 17, 2006) |

in and out on the shaft -- to quote a bold guy, "it's a puzzlement" |
