It's for a temperature sensor. If it overheats it will start staggering the ignition until it cools off. I think it was introduced in 2001. My 2001 M2 has it anyway.

JH,
The overtemp sensor's lead wire in the T-Storm heads installed by Nallin Racing on my '97 Cyclone is simply coiled up tightly and left in place. I may someday install a temperature gauge to make use of it. The sensor's lead is still there if I ever decide to do so. Otherwise feel free to simply clip the lead wire.

I have an empty threaded hole there on my early 2000 M2.

If somebody sends me one I will put together a little module that will connect up to the thing and have three LEDs that light up, blue for cold, green for warmed up and ready to ride, and red for "start to do something now before it is too late". Maybe a little beeper for the red part as well.

Wonder how much the sensor costs, and if it requires any fancy driver circuitry....
