Does anyone have information as to whether part number 91298-97Y (Saddle bag latch assembly -less lock- right) has been superseded or is eligible for warranty replacement? The small cast “finger” which seems to be made out of pot metal snapped off requiring me to break into my own saddlebag by drilling out the latch retaining screws. This wouldn’t have been nearly as bothersome had it not failed to open at the post office with my income tax returns in the bag. However, it is nice to know that my saddlebag provides fairly substantial security. I am well on my way to developing a pretty rampant paranoia regarding my saddlebags. I am convinced they know what I’m up to. Also, does anyone have a source for the security allen used to install/remove the bag screws? The Hardly dealers don’t have one and neither does Snap-on. Oz Admin - listed as '97 AND '98 because, to the best of my knowledge, they are interchangeable. Please correct if I'm wrong. |

I have the exact same problem with the cast aluminum finger on both my latches, does anyone know who manufactures the hardware, or the bags? maybe they have a website to order parts direct from them. |

OZ666, Go to your local Walmart or Autozone store. Both sell a set of license plate security screws. The package also includes the special allen wrench to remove said license plate screws. It also fits our beloved saddle bag security screws. I have replaced all of mine with stainless button head screws so I dont have to carry that special little tool any more For what its worth. |

I think I have the remainder a bag that was on a 98 that I wrecked. If it's different than the '99 I could let it go. I haven't set it next to the new ones to see what's different yet. I did find out the outer case mounts differently which could be problem. I'm hoping I can fix it with some hardware swaps but I' a little concerned.... I'll let you know. |

My left bag just broke..had to drill a hole under the handle and use a bugger pick to open it....works better than drilling out the screws. Does anyone know if the latches are still in the buell system....mine is a 98 s3t |
