Aaron:

I think I can provide an explanation (theoretical) for why my engine developed a profuse compression leak in just about 500 miles.

For one all previous gasket failures I have ever experienced were far more oil loss than compression escape. This one is so bad that you can actually hear a whistle as the combustion gases escape out the side of the head.

When I disassembled the motor I noticed that the spark side (where the leaks are) bolts were quite loose. Then it hit me, I did do something different this time. After buying new head "bolts" (they are actually nuts) every time I refreshed the motor because the factory plating just does not stand up to the heat and they rust in a hurry, I decided to splurge ($120) and got these Colony polished SS items to use.

I suspect there might be something different metallurgically speaking about these. At the local speed shop the guys told they do not follow the factory head tightening recommendation but instead toque the heads to 45 ft. lbs.

Well, I have no experience with those head bolts so I can't offer much, but I do appreciate you bringing it to my attention. I know lots of people who just torque to 45 ft/lbs and I know lots of people who do the 1/4 turn past 15 ft/lbs thing (some use 18), both methods seem to work, loosening of the bolts is not a common problem. So yeah, considering the bolts were changed to a different material, I'd be suspicious of that too.

In that case I am going to reassemble the beast till you make the announcement. I'm getting so good at this now that it won't matter one bit to dismember it again. In the meantime I'll try my hardest to wear out it quickly.
