I saw another post on here about some nice seat bags from Australia made out of oilskin. I've never seen oilskin before, but after looking up a bit about it on the Net, it's actually made from oiled cotton cloth. Wouldn't that get all over your stuff, especially in hot weather? They have a Cordura option... I'm trying to decide which one would be best (or easier to deal with). Thanks! ~SM Here's the link: http://www.andystrapz.com/a_bagz.htm |

I'm assuming oilskin bags would be the same as an oilskin rainsuit. Totally gross. It's the most waterproof thing out there, but it doesn't breathe at all, smells bad, and is messy. The stuff will leave the oil on your hands whenever you touch it, so I'd imagine it would to the same to the contents of the bags unless there is some kind of liner. Plus, you have to reoil it every few rainstorms. Not worth the trouble, IMO. |

Belstaff and Barbour have been making wax-cotton gear since the 40's for motorcycles. It's the original all weather motorcycle wear! I have a full Belstaff Trialmaster suit. It does not stink, it does not get on everything, and it was the first "breathable" fabric. |
