I have a 2000 M2 Cyclone - want to do a chrome cam cover (existing finish is the stock silver textured finish) - should I pull the one I have and have it stripped & plated or can I replace it with a stock chrome Harley Sportster cam cover? Any info would be appreciated. | ||

the sporty cover will foul the brace that rounds just outside of the engine output pulley, I believe -- (unless the sporty is two piece, which I don't remember) internally, they are the same -- just don't forget to take all the pressure off the cams (remove the rocker boxes and rockers) -- you may have big trouble if you don't (Message edited by bomber on March 30, 2006) | ||

All your going to do is ruin a good cam cover. If any chrome gets on your bushings, and it will, the cover will have to be rebushed and line reamed to your case. than when you pull the old bushing out of the cover the chrome will start peeling around the bushing holes and you don't want pieces of chrome floating around in your motor. Just have it polished. Nothings prettier than polished aluminum, if you keep up with it that is. | ||

Good point on the bushing issue - so back to the question: is a 2000 model year Sportster cam cover interchangeable with a 2000 model year Buell cam cover - from the outside they look the same, who knows what lurks beneath? | ||
