This is more of a question on Buell dealership service practices. I need my TPS reset but I've been putting it off. They said they're so backed up they'll need to keep it for 4-5 days before they can do the work but they won't let me set up an appointment to drop in for the 20 minutes or so that the work will take. Is this standard or should I try to find another dealer who will work with me? I don't want to be without my bike for 4-5 days because it's my primary transportation. Thanks in advance. Patrick | ||

i just called my dealership here in Houston and they said that they would just slide me in on a saturday morning. They did say i may have to wait a little bit but any hoo. Find someone who is willing to work with you and your scheduling | ||

That's rediculous! Dump that dealer. Find another. It's a simple 10 minute procedure & anyone that wants to keep your bike for several days, I would be highly suspicious of! | ||

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like I may be taking a trip this weekend because the next closest dealer is just shy of 100 miles away of mostly interstate. I knew that couldn't be normal but just wanted to confirm it here. Patrick | ||

You could always get the VDSTS from one of the sponsors and do the reset yourself. Very easy to do. If you buy the kit, all you'll need is the manual, and a laptop or pda, and about 15 minutes. | ||

You had me at "about fifteen minutes" I'm going to have to get me a vdsts! It would more than pay for itself in just a few trips to my nearest dealer. | ||

If you're thinking about tweak'in on your bike anytime soon, consider Direct Link instead. Direct Link has the basic reset tools we need and will be becoming a much more powerful diagnostic/adjustment tool in the next months. | ||

unless you have a dyno, direct link by itself is useless. VDSTS is, for most of us, just fine. I reset my and anyone else's tps and check diagnostics with it, no key needed to set new parameters or what not. Nor do I have to have a dyno to calibrate or check my values . For the lay person who wants to reset their tps or check on engine diagnostics VDSTS is a more valuable tool in my opinion. | ||

Direct Link is not for the uneducated tinkerer. You have full control over the ECM values, good for tuning, bad.....VERY BAD if done incorrectly. | ||

Direct Link will be getting spark, AFV, possibly static timing ability and much more. If anyone you know has the software, look at the greyed out stuff and you'll see its potential. Most of this info came from technoresearch. Not sure if it'll talk to dynojet software, but we can only hope that it's going to be addressed. I agree this software is not for the average tinkerer. What the software is good for is loading maps and doing your own tables via a wideband O2 sensor kit and a laptop. It's more time consuming than a dyno, but can be done out of your garage. The thing is that VDSTS is basically $200.00 and DL $350.00; if you never see yourself hopping up your bike then VDSTS is great, but if you're like the rest of us DL is a way better bang for your buck. | ||

I took it to mancuso hd here on saturday morning and they said it would take about an hour to hour and a half because they had to go thru and check the timing and all this other crap. After being so informed here....i feel like once again another dealer try to rape someone (me). I put the race ecm and have let the computer re-adjust the map setting but it is still missing i am sure due to the tps not being reset. Again another dealer that has forced me to give my money to someone else. I will be buying the direct link software for sure | ||

I ALWAYS SEEM "VIOLATED" AFTER LEAVING A DEALERSHIP. I WISH THERE WAS ONE AROUND ME WHERE I COULD BRING MY BIKE AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE GOING DOWN AS A NIGHTMARE IN THE MAKING. JUST "MY" OPINION. |
