Got a 03 XB9S. Never changed the suspension from the showroom floor because I was comfortable w it. Girlfriend just moved here from out of state and will have an extra 125lbs on the back. I weigh 200 and am happy w the suspension.

How much should I tighten the suspension. I have seen the screw that you can tighten it up, but how much? Also anything else I need to do? Thanks for the help.

Also, since I have never jacked w the suspension settings, what does the factory set it at?

there are setting in the owner's manual, D -- for both solo and 2-up, if memory serves . . . . . .

briefly, both ends of the bike should be set for static sag for the amount of weight to be carried --

again, the book is the best source for this data --

btw, you are very lucky that the bike was set for someone of your size -- could be the previous owner and you shared that -- I'd check it if I was you, as XB platforms are very sensitive to setup, from all reports -- who knows, it could go from good to great!

What Bomber said!

Plus some extraneous bloviating from your's truly... : ]

Virtually the entire added mass of a passenger on an XB9 is borne by the rear axle, so the only preload adjustment that is vital is to the rear shock. The rear shock preload will probably need to be maxed out or near to it. The change in damping is per preference. Compression damping in the rear would do well to be increased some. Your owner's manual should offer good guidance concerning proper suspension setup. : ) Again, like Bomber already said. : ) Thanks Bomber. : )
