John welcome to Bad Web I think I can speak for everyone here stripping that paint will indeed mean you will have to reclear the fender.As for a carbon fiber tank that is not ever been seen as far as I know just for X1s.And your shifter I may be wrong but I don't think so the new style X1 shifter won't work you might want to check into banke perfomance they will have a shifter for you that will work AWESOME!!!!!!! | ||

Steve If you want the 760 we might can work something out. I have made some mods to the mounting brackets. It has not been painted and it is the flat black version. I think I paid about $160 + shipping for it new so make me and offer and we can deal. | ||

John, From a past post, info has it that the visual quality of the CF on the 96's wasn't always real good. Therfore the paint job. I believe it was Court or Father Dave that provided this info. I'm sure they will chime in. BTW, welcome! My next bike will be a 98 S1 if I have my way... Brad | ||

Roadrunr...I have a 2002 M2 and was reading that you have installed a Givi on an M2. I'm looking into installing something on my Buell and was wondering what was required to get the Givi to fit. Would a it make a difference if I was installing a 760 or a 755 and is it a straihgt forward fit? | ||

Does anyone know if the rear inner fenders interchange between Lightnings, Thunderbolts, and Cyclones and what years. I am looking to replace the inner fender on my 2000 S-3T and am finding plenty but either the posted parts numbers are not the same as mine or the seller don't know what they fit. From the pictures they all look pretty much alike. My part # is 59421-99YA. Thanks Ron | ||

I did some trimming on the brackets that attaches to the headlight mount. I also trimmed maybe an inch off one of the rods for the upper bracket. If you would like I may be able to e-mail you some pics. Dave | ||

Any tips, or products out there that clean / restore black crinkle finish. After several rain rides the front cylinder fins on my 2001 X1 could use a little TLC. I know, I know....I can't have my bike looking too pretty, but its winter and I'm bored out of my skull. | ||

For black wrinkle paint I do the following: Glean really - really well with 50 - 50 solution of Simple Green and water. Using a cheap 1 or 2 inch paint brush in the fins helps. If your really particular and want to be sure you get well down into the bottom of the fins - especially on the front jug you can use a pistol cleaning rod with a NYLON bore brush, NOT bronze or stainless steel, about.40 caliber size. This really gets out burned in mud and bugs. Rinse off well let dry - I use compressed air. Then spray lightly one or two applications of S-200 engine bright. I could be way off on the name of this stuff. I get it at my H-D dealer. Comes in a small red spray can with about a 4 inch long spray tip that has a little defuser on the end of it. Let the stuff dry over night between coats and before riding. It holds up well between washes as long as you use a non wax removing car wash. Looks good and does not damage the paint/powder coat. I think it's one of the few things that works almost as good as the add hype claims. Hope this helps with the cabin fever! Ron | ||

Hope someone can help me with info. I got a Tankcover for the X1 but the 2 tongs on ther front that holds the two cover (air scoop on the left and the air cleaner cover on the right) is off and missing. Can these thongs be purchase again or what other plan as substitute can be used and how do you attached it so it would not come lose again. tks Eugene | ||

Brad, I suggest that you take out another bolt from your fuel cap and go to Home Depot. They have a good selection of stainless hardware and the Buells use pretty common sizes. I bet you can find what you need there. Eugene, I think you would be better off just watching e-bay and getting a tank cover with all the tangs(not thongs, thats what my wife wears  . Most of the tank covers go for around $50. | ||

Dan, Could you please be more thorough when giving advice! If you are offering to clarify the difference between two similarly named but different pieces of bodywork/covers, then we expect some pictorial evidence to help distinguish between the two. | ||

BTW, The paint protector vinyl/felt type items are called tank masks not tank covers. | ||

Yeah, I know. But common vernacular usage usually overrides "official" terms. Except when dealing with some parts/service people, then you need pictures. Not all, but some. When is a coke not a Coke, and should we call it a cola or a carmelized soda? Or is soda really called pop, or is Pop a dad. Now the we got tongs and tangs cleared up does anybody know anything about my inner fender question a few posts back? It dawned on me that whenever Buell went from the welded box swingarm to the cast model they would have changed the inner fender too. I think that was in 1999. So let me refine the question based on the above assumption: will inner fenders (rear) on all Buell tubular framed models from 99 to the last production of same fit from one model (M-2, X-1, S-3) to the other?
