I've got an '04 Buell XB12S, with only 24 miles on it (New, leftover!) my buddy has an '04 XB12R. I'm a bit perplexed at why mine vibrates like it's trying to shake itself apart at lower RPM's while the R seems infinitaly smoother? I'm worried something might be wrong. Are these bikes running different cams, or something? Anyone got any idea? Al??? |

Same cams. First suspect would be a loose primary chain. Be sure to only adjust it according to the manual and be sure to do so only for its tightest location. Adjust it to the larger end of the specified range to be safe. Loose is far better than tight. Too tight can ruin stuff in a hurry. |

Are they both set to the same idle speed? Isolators worn? |

Both idle at just over 1000 RPM. Mine thumps like you wouldn't believe below 3K RPM, but is smooth as silk above 3K? There's none of the teltale rattling, or gnashing sound that usualy accompanies a loose primary. The bike is brand new! I just clicked over 200 miles today. I should take it to the dealer, but that's 150 miles away! I might try my local dealer, but these Harley shops are such pricks! One refused to zero a TPS unless I bought the Race ECM from them & had them install it! And, no, the Race ECM is NOT installed. The only Mods are an open box & K & N filter. Besides, it was like this since new! |

Did it run rough before you opened the airbox? If so, what might be the contributing factor. Primary chains don't always make noise when they vibrate. Suggest you check it. Or not. Whatever. |

It DOESN'T run rough, it vibrates like an SOB! I've been searching this site and it sounds like the front motor mount is the culpret. I just can't believe it came from the factory that way though? But, then again, it IS a Harley! |

It might be a motor mount. It probably did not come that way from the factory. It is not a Harley. We are happy we can help |

It may be a motor mount, it is unlikely it arrived from the factory that way, has nothing to do with the Harley association and can be fixed. Contact me with your contact info (phone number, etc), the VIN of the bike and the selling dealerships contact info. Court |

Okay, did it vibrate so badly prior to your intake modifications? |

Right, you also said "The bike is brand new! I just clicked over 200 miles today." If you want help, please simply answer the question. Did it vibrate so badly before you modified the intake. No matter, I strongly recommend you put the intake back in its stock form. A lean running Buell engine is not a good thing and your warranty won't cover any related problems that might develop if you have altered the intake, especially without taking any measures to compensate for air/fuel mixture. The AFV should do that, but it ain't always foolproof for the entire operational envelope of the engine. |

Have you checked the tension of your primary chain? |
