Just picked up a bone stock M2 and have the Buell race kit ready to install. As far as jetting, what size jets would you all recommend? I am close to sea level out in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My buddy installed a 215 main and I can't remember the slow. Looking through the various forums, 215 seems a little big. He has not had any problems, though. Please throw me some bones...... Aceboy74: Jetting depends on what the ALTITUDE is where you live, what your TIMING is set at, the type of AIR CLEANER you are running, and the EXHAUST SYSTEM back pressure ??? "i" have a 97S3T with LIGHTING HEADS(latest and greatest heads before the THUNDERSTORM HEADS came out), 1.75 to 1 needle tip CRANE ROCLER ARMS, a "PRODUCT IMPROVED" AIR BOX, a "PRODUCT IMPROVED" EXHAUST SYSTEM and TIMING ADVANCED ... My CARB. is set up with the IDLE MIXTURE SCREW out from seat 2 1/2 turns, LOW SPEED JET #48, the HIGH SPEED JET #200 and , idle set at 1000 RPM ... |

Ace -- Buellistic's jetting will likely work pretty darned well on an M2 with the race kit -- these beasts are relatively forgiving in the jetting department, and the noted jetting will work with almost any airlceaner/pipe combination -- to get it spot on, of course, some dyno time is needed . . . . . my Y2K MaDuece with a race kit air cleaner and Wileyco pipe is runnin a 48/200, and my idle mixture screw, after a great deal of trial and error (and burns -- ouch) is just under 2.5 turns out . . . . |

If everything else is equal, will moving up to higher altitude take a bigger number MAIN, or a smaller number MAIN jet? (I'm usually between 5 to 150 feet above sea level...) |

Smaller, but be careful, the stock carburetor is a CV model and does a pretty good job at adjusting for varying atmospherics. Probably best to just leave it as is if most of your riding will be at lower elevations. I've ridden up at 10,000' ASL and my Cyclone ran well enough up there. There is likely no need to go for a bigger main jet, but the slow/pilot jet is a 42 in stock form. I have a 45 that works great, some find a 48 to be preferable. Had some other carb tuning done on mine though to, like fiddling with the spring and going to another needle jet. If it runs well, that's all that matters. |

Ace, 2000 Cyclone with race filter and BOSS pipe. Main is a 190 (or 195, cant find my notebook), pilot is 45 with screw out 2.5 turns. Runs great! Blake, when I was last in Colorado (Breckenridge area), I had problems loading up at low rpm's. Once I got it running and on the road it got better. If I was to stay at a that higher altitude, I would have gone smaller on main and pilot. Brad |

help? 2001 M2 I was running a Wileyco slip on, gutted stock air box ( venturi ring & no helmholtz tube/filter housing ) with 45 idle, 2 1/2 turns & 190 main w/ .015 shim on stock needle. ran fine. Then I put the stock muffler back on to quiet down, then the race kit arrived. So... I toss on the race air filter, ( carbon ham can ) back to the stock 195 main & add another .015 shim. Fine till full throttle, then big torque loss. . My bud says lean main, so after the poor guy at Arkport Cycle digs through a box of unsorted ( time to beat the mechanics! ) mikuni etc jets, we find a 200. Yeah! ( am I the only rider in upstate NY that jets my own bike? Damn! ) So.... Stock muffler, Carbon ham can, 200 main, .030 shims, 45 idle. Now it bogs bad at full throttle & picks up when I let off. Do I need more jet? |

Can you please clarify, when you said "race kit arrived" did you mean intake side only? Or Race Kit Muffler too? Not clear from your last post what muffler you are running, stock or Race Kit. |

In most cases, the 200 is too big for a mostly stock motor. Might want to go to a 195 or a 190. |

I got the full kit, but wanted to try to run the quiet muffler for now. Right now, Stock muffler, Race filter. otherwise stock. 205 main ( stock was 195 ) .030 shim under needle, 45 idle, 2 1/2 turns. Runs smooth at part throttle, Idles fine, but the last 1/8 or so of throttle was bogging bad with the 195 & 200 jets. Back off throttle, power picks back up. Lean, no? Just test rode, with 205 jet, not as "boggy" but still flat on top, & now a kind of hammering vibration at full throttle, like I'm lugging it bad at low rpm, except I'm at 4000+. ???? What's the indicator of a manifold leak? If the carb boot is folded or bad? I'm perplexed. & a little surprised if just the race air cleaner flows THAT much better than a modded stock airbox. |

Runs better, now, went back to the 190 main jet, & full throttle now available. Much crisper. Still not perfect, but I'm thinking it's the stock muffler, so, time to go to either the slip on or full set. Then some dyno tuning to get it all proper. Thanks all. |
