I have an '03 XB9S which recently started making this high pitch humming noise after I start the bike. It sounds like when the fuel pump first initializes but much louder. After I've been out on the road for 1/2hr or so, the sounds seems to go away. I've noticed no loss of power or other sign of performance issues. It doesn't sound like metal grinding (ouch!); and it's not the cooling fan. I wonder if the fuel pump just keeps running? The only reason I'm concerned is that the sound has been gradually getting louder. So before I take the cycle to the dealer for what I expect will be a costly analysis, I wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of this mysterious sound. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nate |

Get a long screw driver, place in ear and other end on various points on engine to isolate where noise is coming from ... Then get back to us !!! |

Okay, I finally had a chance to poke around the engine with a screwdriver. From what I can tell, it sounds like the noise is coming from either the top of the rear head or somewhere slightly foward of the rear head. The screwdriver didn't seem to isolate the noise. But, pulling the airbox cover helped to amplify the noise. It may be one of those things where I will need help from the local dealer - ugh. Any other thoughts/comments would be appreciated. |

I noticed a buzzing noise when I start the bike in cold weather. I traced it down to the oil filter bypass. That 20w50 oil is just too thick to go throught the filter media when it is too cold. |
