Leeaw, I've found straps and clips at fabric stores and Wal-Mart craft departments, also at REI co-op. There are a couple of non-interchangable brands around, so if you're trying to match up with what you currently have/had then bring the old/remaining parts with you. | ||

Leeaw . . . .Fastex sticks in my head for some reason (er, the last Hendrix Concert I attended, perhaps?), but my Chase Harper bag that rides on the thumper has very different clips, so, like Mikej said . . . . . I found fastex stockers at Erehwon and Galyan's . . .any decently stocked outdoorsy type place should have em, but know that they come in a variety of widths, so, like I said, Like Mikej said Mikej . .. gonna see you on the 20th? | ||

Has anyone had problems with the lock on the s3t's hard bags? Today I was cleaning my bike and I found a large crack in the side of the bag closest to the rear tire. I attempted to open the bag to take it off and the release will not open the bag. That seems to be broken too. Anyone have any ideas on how to open it? The crack I am pretty concerned with. Is there anyway to repair it? I was able to get the bag off the bike and I noticed that the crack runs between the top most fasteners. Weird thing is the most I ever may carry in the bags is a helmet and some rain gear. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance! | ||

ATT: Jreichner ie:Saddlebags-S3T Have a 97 S3T.............. Replaced both right & left SADDLEBAG LATCH ASM(LESS LOCKS). In 99 the FACTORY at no charge updated my SADDLEBAG LATCH ASM'S from P/N 91271-97Y & 91272-97Y(ie;Article in Battle2WIN mag Vol. 2-Issue3 1998 page 50/51). Yes, I have had cracks occur which were repaired with MAXI-CURE extra thick 10-15 sec. glue(CYANOACRYLATE is the magic word on the container)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This glue is also the best for resealing the GROMMETS(if they start to weep/leak)on the oil tank)..................................... In buelling BUELLISTIC and/or Hardley-Harley | ||

Jim R, Buell picked up the cost of my cracked saddle bags inners last year via "good will" for my (out of warranty) 99 S3. I don't think I over packed my saddle bags. I've seen some folks pull a Craftsman roll-around tool chest out of theirs though! My dealership coordinated with Buell and all I had to do was swap 'em out...no cost to me. Pretty sweet! Again ... that was last year. Things may have changed. As far as stubborn locks ...no idea. (On a side note ... I've never been too surprised that contents were wet no matter how much lid adjustment I try) DAve | ||

Buellistic: That Battle2Win article that you mention...DO you know how I may be able to find an archive of that article? I just took one of my bags to the dealer yesterday and they asked me to give Harley Customer Service a call. Hopefully I will be as lucky as Dave was. Dave: Once you got the new bags, have you had any more issues with the bags? Did you have to reinforce the bags in any way or put extra padding on the bag to reduce vibration? The dealer stated that I could reinforce the bag with fiberglass and also experiment with additional padding on the outside of the bag. They are hoping that the extra padding and the extra fiberglass will stop the cracking. | ||

The 00/01 inners are made of a different plastic than the 99s from what I can tell. So far ... so good...I had like 15k miles on mine before they cracked. So time will tell. If they crack ... I'll ask Buell or just go fiberglass. I don't see how any padding can help. I think it's the mounting system and the material used in 99. DAve | ||

i'm planning a trip from sonoma, ca to las vegas on my '99 m2. i don't do much touring on the bike, so i don't want to make a large investment in touring luggage. i want something that's easily transferrable from the bike to the hotel room. came across the 'tour pack' by rev pak. does anyone have any knowledge of this pack or how well it will fit the back end of the bike. thanks. bryan | ||

If you do ANY touring on your M2, it will be worth it to get a proper rig. I've been using the Ventura Pack for going on 4 years now. It is pretty much without flaw.  And you can now purchase one from...   I'm not sure if the package price at ASB includes the optional grab handle and sport rack or not. It should definitely include the touring rack, bracketry, and the 45L pack. The grab handle is nice for when you arrive at your destination; within 30 seconds you can remove the dorky looking touring rack and in its place mount the grab handle, thus regaining the sleek look of your bike. If desired, the entire system can be removed with little bother once you get back home. I really really like mine. | ||

Sonomacyclone The Ventura isn't the cheapest, but it works and it works very well. ALso, the service is incredible. I was putting the frame on the bike (X1) when some friends came over with a new R1 and a 929RR. Well I went riding and lost all the smaller mounting hardware. Called ventura and Amy sent me out a new set free of charge. One of the few places I've seen that cover owner stupidity. A new feature I've recently discovered... You can also use the 45L pack as a cooler! Proven performance at Mid-Ohio. I don't know if Ventura recommends. Fill 'er 1/2 with ice, add beverage (beverages in cans/bottles help), top with ice. Just got my Yodude flytrap put on yesterday and thought I'd give some feedback on it in case anyone else was thinkin' bout gettin' one. First off I think it is really a great idea. There's enough room behind there to store some useful things. I'm thinking a disc lock, tire gauge, a few common tools, and a supply of rockerbox gaskets haha. I didn't get the YoDude bag cause I think something from Wal-Mart will work just as well and cost way less than $20. So I just got the hinge kit. The finish of the hardware is ok. Not great, but the parts you see look good enough when the install is done. The hinge is rubber coated black and some areas weren't fully covered, you could see the metal. Not a big deal as the hinge is pretty much hidden although it might rust in the long run. ? There are 4 black caps which are the only parts you really see from the front of the bike and they are coated black as well, they all looked good. the rest of the hardware was stainless steel and looked great. Installation was straight forward but required a bit of wrestling to get everything lined up. The bolt holes in the hinge didn't line up perfectly with the holes in the shield but it all worked out in the end. Could have been Buell's fault as much as YoDude's though. The shield does flap around quite a bit more than when normally mounted but a bit of velcro should take care of that. I can say that at nearly double the speedlimit this morning it didn't fall off. And it hasn't come open on any bumps around town either. | ||

Had one of my hard bag release mechanism break and thought I'd never get it open but----- I found a rather good way to get into them and still have them completly functional till I can get another latch release pawl. Lift the latch release handle up as far as you can and drill a 1/8 hole in the bottom of the cup as close to the seat side and as near to the handle pivot as possible. You can then use a 3/32 long allen wrench or similar to reach through the hole and operate the release mechanism to open the lid. This allows you to keep using the bag and you can even lock the handle to prevent unwanted intruders until a new part can be had. Remember that these are the cups that fill with water when it rains so now with the hole the water will drain into the bag from the cup so apply some rtv to the hole to seal it and just poke it out when you need to get into it or find a small rubber plug for it. Nice thing is that with the handle down, you can't see the hole and thus no cosmetic issues. | ||

I am not sure if this is in the correct spot but here it goes.... The large saddle bags on my '00 S3T cracked on the last trip that I went on. I am pretty sure that I will not have much luck getting the factory or the extended warranty to cover any or part of the repair, but I am willing to give it a shot. What avenues have others used to get this issue resolved? I am planning on calling Buell CS to find out what some of my options may be. I am also planning on contacting my extended warranty to see if I can get anything resolved there. Any thoughts and ideas will help. Thanks, Aaron '00 S3T | ||

Aaron: First tip, change your name before you call Buell customer service. It'd give you a foul taste were they to hang up on you the minute you uttered your name. Second, the extended warranty MIGHT apply. First step is to carefully read and understand it. It's not provided or serviced by Buell and your best step, when you speak to the warranty folks, is to be well informed. Third, if that fails, give the folks at Buell Customer Service a call. I suggest you be candid, honest and clearly state your problem, how it occured, when you noticed it and any words you may have to put their mind to rest that you weren't carrying shot puts to a track meet. Fourth, LISTEN. These folks know alot. They are likely, assuming there is a quick answer, to know it. (I've talked to many folks who wouldn't stop telling me why I HAD to fix their problem, long enough to tell them I'd be happy to) Fifth, be polite. Sounds simple and it is. These are the folks that CAN help you if anybody can. Telling them what their parents suck on the phone diminishes your chances. Lastly, if you get a chance send me a picture of the bags with details of the cracks. I've had a fair amount of 'sperience and if there are any suggestions I can offer, I'd be thrilled to.
