Is there any way to tell the "build date" from the VIN? I have a 2002 S3T I'd like to know the date of build. |

Thanks Davegess. I was just curious how long the dealer had the bike. |

Does anyone know anything about this bike. I found it on a foreign web site. It was labeled as an RR1000. The chassis and engine look like they are RR1000, but the body must be custom. Jeff

That looks like one of the bikes that Sundance the HD/Buell dealer in Toyko did up in custom bodywork. |

Don't look like Sundance's showroom. Too much room, not enough clutter. Does look like something they would do, very trick. |

I don't know if this the right place, but... I'm looking for an old ad, the tagline was "more flickable than a 4" ash on a cuban cigar" I don't think there was a bike in the ad, but my memory is pretty shot. Does anybody have scans of the old ads? Also if anybody has parts of the old site they want hosted, I'm more than happy to do so. Thanks Matt |

Hey guys, Does anyone know if a '98 S1 and a '98 S1W are the same? I've seen these reffered to both ways and was wondering if there is any difference. TIA Timbo |

Timbo, the VINs were different ("YS" was a S1WL "SS" was an S1) and the S1 didn't have the 101HP engine. The first bunch of S1WL were all the pearl white. Later (late fall/early winter) they started making 'em in other colors. |

S1 has slim 4 gallon tank. S1W has the fat ugly 5 gallon tank. |

I know I will be made fun of for this, BUT.... I have more of a car back ground. In a car when I do brakes I put the fluid in the Master Cylnder and pump and bleed until firm pedal. On my Buell I put the fluid in the top blead down to the bleeder and I can not get a firm lever. The lever goes straight back to the bar with out seeming to gain pressure. If I hold it to the bar and brake open the bleeder it pushs fluid out but will not get the lever "firm" Please help.... someone said I need to bleed it from the bleeder up.....Is this true? How is it done....the brakes where great until I decided to make them better. It takes alot for man to come to you guys with a silly question like this. Please be sensitive..... Thanks, Kevin |

Kevin, you'd be better off posting this in the Knowledge Vault under wheels/brakes. If you run a search for Henrik's Syringe bleeding method you'll have a step-by-step plan for bottom-up bleeding. Josh |

Hopefully someone can help me out, I have a 93 Rs1200, the Gambler rear brake on this thing chatters so loud at idle it is about to drive me nuts. At rest the pads seem very loose fitting, but they have alot of meat left on them, they are the original pads and the bike has under 4,000 miles. What's the deal? Is it normal for these things to rattle LOUDLY? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Dann, find a local speed shop, somebody who sells circle track supples. Those brakes were used on midgets, and other circle track cars. Perhaps they will have an answer. Make sure that you have the BIG safety pin thing holding in the the pads, the simple rod thing will fail. You might find that bleed the brake properly helps. I beleive there is a knowledge vault topic on that subget, there is a trick to getting it right. I do doubt that queit operation was ever a design consideration for these things however. They could be playing The Star Spangled Banner and a sprint car pilot couldn't hear it. Enjoy th ebiek, they are a very nice ride. Dave |

From an old buddy who worked at the plant back in those days...... That's normal. The caliper is made for a sprint car and we modified it to fit . The sprint car people can't hear the rattling over their loud exhaust so it doesn't bother them. PM offers a rear caliper for RS's that works better and also matches the O.E. front caliper. It should still be available from them. Bob |

Thanks, I guess I needed a little reassurance. It does have the big safety pin looking thing on it. Funny thing, now the brake light doesn't work for the rear brake. So I guess when I replace the switch I will atempt to change out the fluid and bleed the brake. If that doesn't fix it ear plugs maybe? |

Not to worry.....I still have the letter that was issued when the "safety pins" were mailed out 12 years ago. I put the old piece in the brown bag, installed the "safety pin" and saved the whole mess along with the letter explaining it. You'll do fine. Let me kknow if yoiu have any other questions. |

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Goooooooooooooosh . . . . the "Holiday Project" was to respond to a "get off yer ass and get with it" directive from Dave Gess to start organizing the Buell archives. I started at 5AM this morning sorting through 9 files boxes of photos taken over the last 14 years in 44 states and I gotta tell ya I got goosebumps. I'd forgotten just how darn much fun this has been. Notes from a magazine editor in CA who'd eventually end up as a "Buell fixture"...."can you confirm or deny the exisitence of a Harley-Davidson based sport motorcycle called Buell?" How about my late Father and a looooooooong haired Erik Buell early on a Sunday morning (which some may recall the "nearly true" story of the sweatshirt, the ceiling fan and the 2 police cars at 4:40am)..in fact the day Erik, with wind noise quite pronounced in the backgroud as he races to the airport, made soem serious comments about augmenting the Buell ine with "performance suspension parts for the Dodge Caravan"....for the record the shortest and most hasily abandoned project in Buell history... I've bought 18 photo albums and suspect that's going to come up woefully short. Happy Thanksgiving to all....I am reminded of how thankful I am for friends around the world. Court |
