Can anyone recommend mirrors for an XB that don't vibrate as much, that give ample view, or any tricks to help minimize the vibration on the stock mirrors? Thanks! |

I just bought my XB today and asked about those uglys and he had a great idea that I've yet to try. You can get bar end billet aluminum mirrors for $$$ but he uses the bar end mirrors from a bicycle shop. I asked about vibration and he said the rubber spacer takes care of it, and this is after the bike smooths out on the road. During idle the vibration is to be expected. If your watching the cash they are $12 or so and black plastic. He loves em and has them on all Buells in his stable..........Plus they'll look better. |

Do a search and you'll come up with a few options. I like these: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/177343.html?1140544711 |

OK, here's my Napoleon mirror plug. Advantages: You can see behind you. You can see probably more in these mirrors than any other. They are positioned far enough outboard that I can see far more to the sides than I ever saw, yet still see behind me in overlapping fields. The wide ends are correctly positioned to the outboard ends of the mirrors. Also it frees up the standard mirror mount spots, which I currently have Al's 2-bolt retainers in, but which will soon be replaced by homebuilt mounts for PIAA 1100x lamps, and like they say of aux lamps, the higher the better. Disadvantages? Yeah it doesn't have "objects may be closer" warnings etched in the glass, but if you can't figure this out, you shouldn't be riding anyway. Image steadiness: my right is totally steady. The left blurs a tad. YMMV. I will play with the amount of tension in the expanders to see how image blurriness is affected. Reliability: I am using 30 year old Napoleons that have been on numerous bikes. The mirrors are bright and clear and the ball and arm joints are as tight and reliable as the day they were made. Only 2 items. First, the original flange nuts inside the bars were made with pressed-on flanges that after a couple of decades were susceptible to spinning. The factory has changed those to one-piece flange nuts. Secondly, one of my two rubber expanders developed a short crack at the thin (keyhole) spot. Not bad for never being garaged, eh? |

A second to FeMagika....just went to a local bicycle shop. For $15 per mirror, you can get 3rd Eye brand. They are super easy to install: Remove existing bar end cap. Insert mirror into bar. Twist until you can't move it anymore. Sit on bike. Adjust mirror to your viewing needs. If you like 'em enough, you can get metal CRG's when you get the cash. |
