I've been tring to get a HSR42 installed on my M2 for a while now, I got the carb used, 1st thing I found was the cable bracket was damaged with no sockets for the cables; so I fabricated a temporary setup. At the same time I discovered my stock throttle cable was about 2 threads from snapping so I replaced it, I now have a new cable bracket which I had to modify immediately as the white plastic wheel was fouling the carb & wouldn't turn; I now find that even on maximum adjustment both cables are too long, grrr; Do I need get adaptors, or new cables, or am I missing something here? The Mikuni manuals aren't much help. |

Innes: I recall going through the same set of obstacles when I put an HSR42 on my S3T some years back. Your first stop should be http://www.mikuni.com/fs-carburetor.html where you can find manuals, parts diagrams, etc. I was always amazed at how helpful the Mikuni people were whenever I contacted them. There were even several Buell riders in their company that had hands on jetting advice. I was able to acquire the correct cables from American Sportbike (a BadWeb sponsor). . . again, a hight quality very customer oriented business and a genuine pleasure to deal with. Hope this helps. YMMV, consider the source, etc. etc. . . |

Cheers Don, I was under the impression the carb was a straight swap, wish I'd known I needed different cables; however I may put my inventive bodging talent to work & create some spacers. |

Grumpy, Do you have the right cable bracket? Thare are two different ones. One for the Sporty and one for the Buell's. I have a picture somewhere, I'll opist it again when I find it... Found it! Even with the correct bracket, my cables are loose. I need to shim it out a bit. |

No, I seem to have got the sporty one; But I've been busy in the garage this afternoon & I've made some spacers up using cut down roll pins, looks good so far but I haven't finished yet, will let you know the outcome. |

"SAFETY !!!" While you are showing PICTURES of the THROTTLE CABLE BRACKET at the carburator ... If you do not have the THROTTLE CABLE KIT(the BUELLschitte numbering SYSTEM: CLAMP,throttle PN C0130.L, CLAMP,throttle PN C0129.L and SCREW PN AN0604.2CZ) installed, "OR" you should SAFTY WIRE the THROTTLE CABLES to the bracket ... IMO safty wire is BETTER ... In BUELLing LaFayette |

I've always found the Mikuni type cables a bit of a pain to adjust. Unlike most other humans riding bikes around this planet, I like my throttle to have near no free play what so ever. The Mikuni cables are at best near full adjustment to achieve this. Pay close attention to cable route. It doesn't take much to get these cables pulling when you turn the bars. Fine tuning / correct routing, is all it takes to prevent this. Rocket |

The problem is common on Harley carb swaps. For some reason if you buy a Mikuni for a H-D or a S/E HSR you will get two different set ups. There are spacers you can buy from Drag, but the best answer is to call Al at American Sport Bike and get the correct cable set-up. ... Terry |

Well, I've been a busy boy in the garage with the saw and grinding wheel & all, I've used roll pins which are nice & strong and are already split to allow cable passage. I used one the same size as the male part of the cable sheath end & another which was just a good interference fit as an outer collar, did this on both cables, & with a bit of experimentation on routing & adjustment, I've cracked it. So I went out for a brisk ride (sunny but only about 5°C) & it's great, no hesitating no coughing, just smooth power delivery when I want it. I got home chilly but grinning. It'll do for now, I'll pick up all the new bits when I'm over later in the year. Thanks for all the advice. There's an enormous satisfaction from overcoming these sort of problems. Cheers All. |

As "PREVENTIVE MAINTANCE" you should replace SEAL,intake manifold 2ea PN 26995-86B every TWO YEARS and this time you should inspect the "THROTTLE CABLES" for wear and lube if "OK" !!! "PLUS", inspect carb. parts !!! |

Sean, I think the cables will wear out before the pins go rusty, plus I have a weeping base gasket, & a mild spooge problem to keep it all nicely oily! Seriously though, The sleeve extensions I've made are a good tight fit on the cable ends & into the cable bracket so there's no flopping or kinking possible. I'll do a shopping list for when I'm in the US next, then give Baby a complete workover next winter.
