Who makes or has a design for a good catch can that isn't too expensive? I rode my 00 s3 in the rain for about 300 miles yesterday and ever since I have had a steady drip of oil mixed with water out of the bottom of my forecwinder. It drips right on the header and onto my floor, so the breather tubes definetly need to be rerouted. Thanks Dave | ||

Here is a relatively inexpensive solution that I worked out last year: http://users.adelphia.net/~jackerbes/Buell/breather.html And here, in the KV, is some discussion of breathers in general. It included a bunch of warnings about why my concept was doomed to failure. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/6804.html?1139051669 But I put 2,500 miles on mine last year and it was completely trouble free. Not a single one of the well meant warnings came true. There is a little bit of oil accumulation visible in the bottom of the original filter but it is still unplugged and breathing freely. John, Check my 04 Feb post above in this thread. My simple cheap filter may work for you. I just took that one apart to inspect it and it was still breathing freely, clear, and unplugged. I'm going to put another one on for next year. Jack | ||

Jack did check your system out i bought a drag spec breather kit to connect the breather outlet's on the head and it came with a short rubber hose was told my harley service guy that to just run a hose and no filter but like your idea of economy fuel filter should be easy to mount and that jaz unit is 55 clam's that's alot of coin for a catch can i do not have a Nascar Budget !!!!!!!!!! | ||

let me know if that works out for you. That smaller tubing sticking up inside is what traps the accumulated fluids so the filter should be mounted close to vertical. If I was getting more blowby I'd just put a new one on every once in a while. I never saw more than 1/16" of standing oil in the original but my M2 is low mileage and I do not ride it hard or at sustained high speeds. I just made up another filter and found some slightly larger silicone fuel line (clear, bright green stuff) at the local chain saw shop. That is a snug fit going up into the filter so I did not even have to seal it in place with RTV. It only took a minute to make up a new filter. Jack |
