I use my 03 xb for track days only and found that during the 20 or so minutes on the track that my hand grip starts to slide off. Is there something that I can do so it doesn't slide off. Do I have to just re-glue it or do I need new grips? |

I think a re-glue would do the trick if you can get them off without tearing them up. You may want to "scuff-up" the inside of the grip for better adhesion. I changed my grips recently; had to cut most of the old one off the left bar, and scrape the rest off....not fun. The factory glue is some bad-as stuff. The throttle side came with a new plastic sleeve already installed(traction grips), so no problem there. Strange that yours are "loose". my $.03 |

Back in the day... Clean the bar and interior of the grip with alcohol or aerosol carb cleaner and let it air dry. Then moisten the grip interior with a little alcohol and slide it on. Let it set for an hour or two before testing it. If that does not hold, remove the grip (getting some alcohol in there again will let it slide right off) and clean it and the bar again. When dry spray the inside of the grip with aerosol hair spray, shake the excess out, and slide it on and leave it alone overnight if you can. The laquer in the hair spray acts like an adhesive after it sets up. If that is still not enough adhesion, it is probably time for something like Weldwood Contact Adhesive. That will probably require cutting the grips to get them off later. Jack |

This is a little trick I use to do when riding dirt bikes. Clean the inside of your grip and bars with rubbing alcohol, then spray extra hold hairspray into the grip and slide it on, it should slide on easy while its still wet. That should hold it, but if you want to go the extra mile, get some safety wire pliers and safety wire it on each end of the grip. Most grips have a little groove for just this purpose. |

I'll probably just use the hair spray and then safety wire, so I won't worry about them coming off anymore. |

Safety wire does the trick for us too. Without it we have the same issues you describe on the race bike. spray paint also works as a lube for install and an adhesive when it dries. (Message edited by diablobrian on February 28, 2006) |
