I have a CityX and I have installed a K&N airfilter and Buell Race can. I DO NOT have the race ECM installed. Will this set up cause any engine damage? Looking for opinions hopefully with some mechanical knowledge behind them. THanks, Pablo |

Pablo(AKA Superbee24): What causes engine damage is riding it like you stole it !!! ie: excessive reving past 6000rpm and it gets worst after 7000rpm !!! In BUELLing LaFayette |

I was more concerned the the folktales/lore about running to lean, valve damage, etc. I don't do "excessive" reps in the 6's and have yet to hit the rev limiter. |

If you are running the race intake and exhaust, you should have the race ECM too. You may indeed be risking damage to your engine. |

Blake, are we talking take the K&N out immediately ( I still have the original ) or it will be OK for about a month until I get the race ECM? Risking damage....as in? Thanks |

I can't quantify the risk. If you are easy on the bike, you will probably be okay, like LaFayette (Buellistic) said. The risk is that the engine may run lean, which means hotter, which means potential for detonation and a holed piston. But with oil jets to cool the pistons and the forced air cooling system, if you are careful the risk would seem to be minimal. |

Pablo(AKA Superbee24: If you are using BUELL perfromance product improvement parts you can call BUELL Customer Service (414) 343-8400 and ask them specific consern questions ... The RACE ECM should be on the money from the FACTORY(BMC) for the K&N filter and RACE Muffler(CAN) ... "BUT" to be on the SAFE SIDE have it run on a DYNO ... A "DYNO" with a exhaust sniffer and a KNOWN TOP NOTCH "DYNO TECH." ... That way if it needs a little tweeking, that task can be done correctly ... In BUELLing LaFayette |

ThANKS for all the answers. I came from a road king so I seem to have more than enough power for now. I checked on my normal driving yesterday and I seem to be shifting at around 4000rpm. I shifted once at 6000 rpm just to see/hear what that sounded like and I have definitely been short shifting as I can assure you that I have not been hitting even the upper 5's. I guess I will be OK for now, I'lll just have to ask SANTA for a race ecm for christmas. Again, Thanks for all the responses. Pablo |
