Well the weather is stopping the riding season for me. It's time for the paint job that is desperately needed. The previous owner did a bad job painting it with spray paint so I want to strip the bike down. Any suggestions on a method or what to use that won't ruin the nylon tank?

Not an expert but one method you could try is a heat gun and a plastic scraper. just use enouph heat to start to lift the paint and start scraping, be careful not to use too much heat.

If you want to take it all the way to the plastic, suggested if someone else has painted it, buy an orbital sander, some(alot) 120 and 220 discs and have at it, time consuming but you won't harm the plastic. I've been told and experienced myself that you shouldn't use too much primer when repainting, two medium coats, so make sure she's smooth before hitting with primer...
