I just replaced my front tire and after re-installing the wheel it seems like my front fork is sticking. Is this common? When I let the bike down off the jack and apply pressure on the bars the fork compresses but doesn't really rebound. I've taken everything back apart and put it all back together with the same results. Any help is appreciated.

Have you had the triple clamps off or loosened recently?Any sign of leaking fork oil?Is the ride height changed now or was this just a result of you raising the front end off the ground, extending the forks, and they are now settling back to original place? These forks really only have about 3" of travel from ride height.

When you reinstall the wheel it's important you get everything lined back up before you tighten down the axle and the pinch bolts.

I would recommend you loosen the pinch bolts and just loosen the axle (can't remember if the XB front axle screws in??). Make sure the front axle is just loose, but still firmly in place. Did that make sense? If not, please ask before going ahead.

Now, carefully ease the front end off the stand so the front wheel is resting on the floor and the front end is supporting the bike; now bounce the front end: clamp the front brake and push down on the bars a few times.

Now torque down the front axle. Then clamp the front brake and bounce the front end again. And then torque the pinch bolts.

Trick is that the bouncing will loosen everything up and make it line up, so that when you torque things down they're in their proper place.

If you didn't have any sticking problems before the tire change, my guess is this will fix the problem.

Please let us know how it works out.

I took your advice about the bouncing and it seems like everything is lined up now. I went ahead and rode the bike to work to see if anything felt different, and so far so good. Thanks again for all the help!
