I've got a question for those of you who have done some 1050/1250 cylinder kits. Here is what I want to do... put a 1050 kit on a 12 motor as they share the same bore size. What I want is the domed piston and higher CR. This should give me a 1250 kit with the higher CR. Only question is how much will it raise the CR and how much is too much? Im not above using a good octane booster as long as it's O2 safe. Also any of you who have had any head work done stage 1, 2, or 3. I would be interested in your opinion/experience on RWHP gain. Thanks just trying out some ideas for this winter.

Best thing to do is ask the shop who is providing all the parts or the engine kit. They will know their pistons and what is possible. If you try to outguess the experts trying to get something even better, you'll likely end up with a junk engine. |

Not trying to outguess anyone expert or otherwise. Just asking for knowledge and or experience. Also the reason I am asking first is to avoid a junk motor, and help me decide which way to go this winter. If anyone has any feedback on their bigbore kits, piston swaps, cam changes or all together I'd like to hear your 2 cents. Thankyou... |

Using a '9 piston would give a CR of around 12:1 that would be unstreetable without a radical cam. The hot ticket lately has been using a Thunderstorm piston and having the heads cut to match. Any CR you need can be fairly easily adjusted. It all depends on the characteristics you want to have in the motor and what kind of cam you're going to run. Like Blake said, ask the builder first. |
