I've seen references to 41mm and 43mm forks for the XB's. Can anyone comment on the interchangeability between either of these and the tubers? I'm guessing that tubers have 41mm and that I can use these with the old style bottoms, or with XB wheels/brakes. Are 43's definitely out? How much of the size difference is looks and how much results in better performance?

The XB forks upper tubes are taper cut unlike the fork tubes on the Tubers. The 43mm forks are not interchangeable at the bottom triple with the 41mm XB forks. The up/down spacing between the top and bottom triples of the XB's is shorter then the up/down spacing of the triples for the Tubers. This means when you attempt to clamp a set of XB forks into the triples of a Tuber the bottom triple clamp ends up too large with an airgap to the fork tube. On the XB forks, '03/'04 have a 54mm top and bottom clamp area. On '05/'06 they have a 54mm top clamp area, but I am not certain what the lower is only that it is a different diameter. I looked into it to use my spare set of forks for my S3 but will have to cut the frame neck down about 1.5-2 inches...which means I would need to change alot. The XB outer forks are also a shorter overall length then the tuber forks.

Hope this helps.
