John King of SkyKing Products is their US distributor. Try www.skykingproducts.com. He's good people. I had his bar end mirrors on my NightTrain, beautifully crafted parts. |

Roger: I don't have my parts manual with me but ANY Buell dealer should be able to get that for you pronto. You're looking for the part number for the "Spider". The part you are looking for is 58749-97Y and I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be VERY difficult to find. I'd suggest Modesto first and w/o hesitation. Just my guess. . . Court |

Roger, I found one last year at Hal's sidewalk sale. Recently traded it off towards an air cleaner. They're around, and are often sitting on the clearance shelves without any tags or part numbers on them. Bummer about the laydown, good about getting the parts to get home though. See you on the 22nd. |

Roger, When bought my "spider" from Chicago HD it took 3 weeks to get to my door. If yer doing battletrax, remove the fairing and spider when you get there, or convert to a X1/S1 setup. I'm sure there's a X1/S1 owner who'll trade you everything you need. Josh |

Ok Josh, whats that wink telling me, do ou have an extra x1/s1 set up, i have been looking but there geting hard to come by, and almost imposable to find complete, and i thought about taking it off, but i need those mirrors so i may have to look into bar ends, maybe i should find a beeter m2 and just make that the track bike, i dont really care what people are saying, i still like the buell line even if it had been nothing but trouble these past few weeks, like i said before, will run like it is till winter, then figure out whats up, i think i will also put on the old shifter, seems to hold up better, because you can never count on a crash, but they happen, cant wait till Randel drops the xb though that should be great ever seen plastic shatter Later Roger |

That was kind of funny in a weird sort of way to hit the exact time to the hundreth's of a second on both "official" laps. I took slightly different lines on each lap as well, weird. Anyway, just helping where I could. Besides, Rick had already sold enough bikes in their tent and I figured he needed a break to come meet you guys. One of the guys in the BRAG meeting last night got a copy of the points standings, he might be able to post the results if he's reading. (oh oh, topic police coming, gotta go ...) |

Polishing: What do I need and how do I start? Any tips? I have the front wheel off and forks out of my trees for rebuilding. Thought I'd make them look good while I was at it. Anything special I should do to protect the bare metal from water stains? |

So, your plan is to blind your fellow racers at OHR eh? I've thought about the polished wheels thing before myself. Decided that if I ever did polish the wheels, I'd have them clear coated. Maybe diligent waxing would be effective too. |

Actually, it's for the Hog's 39mm conventionals. The X1 has Nuke blue frame and castalloys. I generally don't clean my bike unless I do my 2.5k increment services so, any water left on it seems to spot up. No pitting yet. When that happens I'll just have an excuse to buy a nicer, lighter replacement. When I do the 39mm forks, I'll give it a try on the X1...forks, seat stay, swingarm, trees... Then again, someone just might ask at OHR, "What's that's really shiny thing heaped up on the side of the track?" |

X1glider - While you've got your forks off the bike, might want to consider www.sealsavers.com. I spotted them on a Ducati ST4 a week ago, and they looked cool. They're certainly functional and not expensive. I'd have done it myself if I'd knew of them this past winter when I had my fork legs out to change the hydraulic fluid. Russ |

Well I finally broke down and put some CF on Stripe'r After 25,000 miles in 18 months Stripe'r is still looking pretty good IMHO. My thanks to ASB for some quality goods that took less than 2 hours to install. Later Neil S. |

Very nice Neil. Makes the bike look a little sleeker. Did you always have white rims? I was thinking of getting my powdercoated as I stripped the black but am not that fond of the cast finish. |

Lee: The RS X-1's were standard with white wheels. They are kinda classy, like spats . I do like the way the tank accents and air cleaner "lean out" the looks. Now I have to hide that ugly horn, wiring, and Jaz catch can. Time2Work Neil S. |

Neil, Best solution I have found is to mount your catch can to the horn mount, then place your horn behind your fairing. Makes for a nice clean look. What happened to your White Power shock?? |

Dan: Thanks for the relocation hints. Especially with the S3 fairing I should be able to find space. Either that or dual Fiamm horns out the fairing vents. The shock I had on in CO was a Works Performance. I just got an upgraded model and have not had the time to put it back on. It looks like Thursday or Friday I should have time. I didn't realize you were THE Dan that Bob L. mentioned in his oil slick story. I have heard of the filter loosening on a Buell at least 3 other times. I snug mine down at least a 1/4 turn after the gasket touches. TIme2Work. Neil S. |

Neil, My bad. I forgot yours used to be the striped X1. I have been enjoying my fairing conversion from the day I followed your parts list. My rims need something, and I have been contemplating white or some sort of light silver. Enjoy! |

Folks, It has been awhile. I have a question that I thought someone might be able to answer. I have a '99 M2. Great bike and all that. Had thought about installing an S-Type fairing but I think I would rather have some sort of universal-type acrylic windscreen. Something that would replace the flyscreen and provide a little more protection. Mainly to keep the brunt of the wind from hitting me in the chest. Something along the lines of a Slipstreamer, Rifle or Givi screen. Nothing big but larger than the OE. Not real concerned about coverage over the hands although I am not opposed to it as long as proportions stay pleasing. Seems like I read about the Givi line a couple of years ago on this board or another. I have checked out a few websites but (of course) nothing shows up for Buells. Another question, not related to windshields. What do I get into if I want to change that resonator out for something much simpler. Along the lines of the old, round air cleaner I had on the old Sportys. Do I have to change jets or anything like that? My first Evo and I can do the wrenching but like to know what I am in for. Thanks in advance. Mike |

Mike, If you haven't already done so, you might be pleased with the results of swapping out your stock size 42 pilot jet for a #45. Then rather than invest in a dorky liiking windscreen, I would suggest you first try.. 1. Good quality full face helmet (Shoei RF900 or equivalent.) Just make sure the helmet has a spoiler like the RF900 or the molded-in version on the Z-II to eliminate the tendancy of your helmet to lift. 2. Wear the soft pink -30dB eaplugs when you ride. Wind noise is loud and stressful. The ear plugs pretty much kill it entirely. 3. If you spend a lot of time at high speed cruise (75MPH+) try a set of more forward leaning handlebars to help balance the wind with a more forward lean. A fork mounted screen will play havoc with the responsiveness and light feel of your M2. Don't do it if you can possibly avoid it. |

Blake, A #45, huh? I haven't changed out the box yet and am seriously considering something. I like the looks of the dome a/c but might go with a sidewinder or something. AS for the windscreen. I admit that most look rather "dorky". Also, do not want to adversely affect handling. However, I do want more protection than afforded by the standard flyscreen. Mainly for winter, usually try to ride unless it is slick. Something to keep the wind off the chest and neck. Long distance fatigue is something of a problem but can usually be dealt with. I do use a decent full-face (Bell), ear plugs when in extended travel mode. At one time, had considered using the number screen that was available (still may be) thru Buell since it appears to be larger. Except I do need my lights. Seems like someone on this board had had positive remarks about the Givi. I can't remember which screen it was but I believe it was their basic model. It is only slightly larger than the standard issue. It will not take much to accomplish what I would like. I actually duct-taped some dairy panel (light weight resin wall covering) to the existing flyscreen and it deflected enuff wind to make realistic cruising speeds more comfortable with air stream going over my head and keeping the majority of the wind off my chest. Now, that looked dorky. If I recall though, it only was about 6 to 8 inches taller than stock. Since I am rather vertically challenged -63"- it's not like it will have to stand up 16" inches or more. And, before anyone asks, No. I have not lowered the bike. Back in the day, I owned a couple of the old Aeremicci H-Ds. Made great cafe bikes out of one of the 65cc Leggeros and the 125 Rapido. My neighbor and I fabricated rear sets (for the 125, the smaller one had a hand shifter) and my father and I (he was a body man) modified one of those old "office", frp chairs into a great bikini fairing. Cut a hole for the headlight. Ground off the leg mounts. Used fiberglass and bondo to slightly modify the contour. Looked great on the 125. Fabricating something is always an option but would prefer something ready-made. Blake, Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. Also, maybe someone can recall the posting regarding the Givi I (think) I remember. It had been awhile since I had visited the board. I had forgotten how much info and accumulated knowledge there exists here. Mike |

Mike: I have a Givi windscreen on my X1 and it's like night and day compared to the stock one. I got the A-750 universal. They now have 2 other models the A-755 and the A-760 which I wish I had waited on. They are even wider than mine. I can't say where I got it for fear of being b#*%h slapped by blake man that hurts. but I couldnt find it on any of BWB sponsored sites. Steve |
