Blake, I am pretty sure that it is not the bulb that gives the "dip" direction rather the glass lense on the front has flutes on the iside that direct the light. US and Austraila will be the reverse |

Thank you all for your help re the headlight for the 99 X1..... I have a new glass Lense and am very happy I dropped into my local friendly Ducati dealer (Bob at V2 in Brisbane 07 3848 8422) and on inspection he saw that it was the same glass lense as the Monsters and older Ducati's. Like Buell the new models are only orderable as a full assembly, but using the old SD 900 Darmah part number (D080138274) the glass/seal were separate to the reflector (Base of the headlight) So all in all to fit a new Bosch glass lense with a headlight protector set me back $195.00AUD Interesting fact from Bob at Ducati Brisbane was that he sources the Bosch lenses from BMW Motorcycles in Australia... Morgan and Wacker who are the Buell dealer in Brisbane are also the BMW dealer and probably have one in stock, but when I pressed them they refused to sell anything but the whole Buell assembly..... Hope the SD900 Part number helps anyone who has this problem in the future (BTW on its own no fitting and no headlight protector it is $136.00 AUD.. a far cry from $485 AUD!!) |

Aussie X1, Agreed. I failed to recognize that Pilot is an ozzie too. I assumed he was an American. |

Blake no worries Mate, Yep I am an Ozzie an proud of it.You may ride on the right side but we ride on the correct side. And it is the glass that makes the light dip to the side not the bulb.Bob at V2 is a great bloke he sold me a M600 specially modified for the wife she has ducks disease(short legs).Bought it over the phone, paid for with credit card and the next Tuesday night delivered to the workshop.2 weeks and counting till the bloody XB9R turns up.Catch you at the Salt.Bundy and Vegemite what a combination. |

I am looking for the male connector and pins on the kickstand switch pigtail. I want to make a loop out of it so it will always be closed and remove the switch completely. I couldn't find a make and model number on the connector and the Buell parts book only sells the switch and pigtail as one. I just need the connector and pins only. Can anyone find out who makes it and what number it is? Chances are, there are many types of pins, I'm thinking they're the bladed type. |

OK, I'm dork and crashed my bike (2002 S3T). Actually, I got some assitance from a bigger dork (he hit me). Anyway, the right front turn signal was broken off. The other turn signals worked for a little bit and then stopped (nothing flashing on the dash either). I got the new one and put it on last night thinking (hoping) that they just weren't working because one was disconnected (it didn't make sense but I was still hoping). No luck, still nothing. I'm thinking the flasher may have gotten frutzed but I don't know. Any thoughts. BTW, please don't say check the fuse because I already did that. I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone has. Thanks. |

Is it wet? My turn signals don't work when it is raining. I've sprayed dielectric grease all over everything to try to seal the water out, but they still don't work after a shower. Just a thought. |

The crash was two weeks ago so if the got at all wet, they shouldn't still be. That is interesting to note though. BTW, does anyone know where the flasher is? Please tell me it's in the control box by the switch where it would be nice and easy to access... |

dunno, on a '97 S3 it's up by the battery, on the throttle side of the bike |

Quick question to the gurus here....when I try to start my bike, I can hear the starter motor spinning, but it doesn't seem to be spinning the crank. all i get is the whining of the gears on the left side of the engine. any ideas? |

If it was an S1, I'd say your starter clutch is going. But a Bandit? No clue. |

I always assumed that the basic set up was the same...do you think it would really be much different between the 2 types of bikes? |

My Yammer's starter didn't have a clutch. The torque and/or centrifugal forces of spinning up the starter actuated a mechanical engagement thrusting the pinnion gear out to engage the flywheel gear. Very much like the action of a solenoid in a typical automotive starter. No clutch like in our Buell starters though. Your Bandit's starter may have a solenoid (electro-magnet actuator) or the mechanical equivalent like my Yamaha. Check all the electrical connections and fuses first, then don't be afraid to dissassemble the starter. They are pretty simple devices. You will probably want to have a fresh set of orings/gaskets though. One other possibility. If you overfilled your oil, some may have crept into the starter. That will also be very evident. That is an easy fix. Remove starter, dissassemble/clean, reassemble. Good luck. |

Actually Blake, it was the starter clutch...specifically the retaining nut...according to a Bandit BBS, these nuts were not torqued proprerly out of the factory, and are somewhat known to work loose. |

I have a prob with my right directional. It is grounding or has some sort of short in it as it keeps blowing fuses. I found a small wire fray and taped it up but I think there is more to it, because it happened again. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know. I like to have a good idea of how to go at it without tearing wire runs apart. Thanks |

First, unplug connector for rear wiring harness section, (near ECM). Problem still there? Pull connector for applicable front wirng harness section. Problem still there? Check areas of remaining wiring where abrasion is likely and/or evident. Trace it all the way back to flasher. If problem subsides upon unpluging a section of wiring harness, you know the short is in the removed section. Find it and repair. |

My S1 broke down yesterday. It started out Friday by being difficult when the bike was warm and I was starting it up again....it would start fine, but when I would shift into 1st and start to excelerate, the RPM guage would dive to zero and it would die and back fire. It's not vapor lock as I removed the cap. I think it sounds like a carb issues, but others guess it's electrical. I checked the plugs and they were black but not terribly so. Now even when the bike is cold it is doing this, so it's completely out of commision. Any suggestions? |

Suzy: These could be symtoms of a failed/failing kickstand switch. Try shorting across the terminal at the switch (I recently heard here that a paper clip works great for this) to see if the situation improves. Another possibility would be either a loose battery cable or a broken battery cable end. Good luck, hope this helps. Don (I am not an electrician, nor have I ever played one on TV. To me , all the 'lectical stuff is just bad voodoo) |

I disconnected the side stand switch but no luck. The battery cables look fine too. I hate electrical issues!! |

Suzy, Take a safety pin or straight pin and pierce (short circuit) both wires with that pin. There's plenty of wire there, just don't let the pin touch the frame. If the bike starts and runs, and doesn't stall out when engaging the clutch in gear. You know where the problem is. Just went through this last week. It is pretty simple to repair. Either cut the wires, twist, solder and shrink wrap. Or replace the switch. Good luck, |

I carry, in all my riding suits, two electrical plugs. 1) Shorted Buell sidestand switch. 2) Universal Harley-Davidson / Buell starter "key" Both have been used many times. . . as much due to my own scatter brain as any HD/Buell shortcoming. |

Suzy: If it is not the clutch or sidestand switch, it could be your battery going south. Is your battery the original, or has it been replaced? My S3T acted similar. It would even start and then acted as you described. Batteries have this curious effect on the electrical system. Although, my bet is one of the switches, considering your make and model (BTW: paperclips work great as jumpers, just cover them with electrical tape.). Ride More, Lean More, Grin More. Neil S. |

Well I have rigged the side stand switch and that made no difference. I went to the dealership and they think it could be fuel related and suggested looking at the fuel filter, in the carbs, etc, which I would like to look at but I don't know how to drain my tank. The battery is new and the connections look and feel good. |
