I just got a ticket from a local cop.I was sure I was going alittle over 30.he said I was going 41.I got my ticket, knowing I was going about 33 or so,and continued my ride.About 5 miles later my speedometer kinda wavered.and slowly went to zero, mind you Im going about 70.Now my speedometer isnt working and my odometer isnt working,Im thinking maybe the speedometer sensor went bad, could this have had anything to do with a incorrect reading on my speedometer? If it has,I will go to court a pleed NOT GUILTY on the speeding ticket, and try to get it dismissed!Any ideas or suggestions,am I on the right track on my problem....bad sensor??THANKS

Rich...,
Go to your local shop and have them check the speedo and document it. Then have them replace it, or get the part/sensor and fix it yourself. Then take the diagnosis and receipt for parts/work to the court with you and humbly request that the speeding ticket be changed to a fix-it ticket. Plead no contest to the speeding, but plead that you thought you were riding within the posted limit and only due to the fact that your speedometer was malfuncitoning as will be documented by you that therefore you request a point reduction or change in the citation. I don't know if this will work, but it sounds good. Worst thing that can happen is that you'll be no worse off than you are now. Best thing is, if you have a clean driving record, the judge will be sympathetic and you'll walk out clean.

I found out my sensor was indeed bad.I replaced it with a new one and all is well!I plan to take the old sensor, receipt, and a letter from a local mechanic that will back up my claim as to what happened!I hope it works!

Well this afternoon i got the stator out, the problem was not the stator but the plate that holds the 2 wires that come out of the stator from coming in contact with the rotor/primary chain, and guess what the plate wore through one of the wires causing a dead short, since the wire wore through a little at a time it was an intermiten problem at first, until the wire was completly eaten through, then it was a dead short, just posting for future reference and hoping for advice when i reinstall, ie lube, has the plate been updated?? and any helpfull hints would be great
hope this helps someone else

Question for all of you out there. I have a 99 M2 and the other day it decided to quit starting in gear. I have only had it a couple months and I am pretty sure it started in gear before. I called the dealer and they said that it is normal for the bike to just start in nuetral. I am not so sure if I buy that. Anyway if anybody has some suggestions on how to fix it I would appreciate it!!

Thanks

Does anyone know the part # for a flasher for a 2001 M2? Lost my directionals after a rain storm and the flasher seems to be the problem.

Burton,

The person who told you that it is normal for your M2 to only start in neutral is wrong. There is a safety cutout switch on the clutch. Try unplugging and blasting it (both ends) with contact cleaner. Do the same with the kickstand safety switch.

I have had an argument with a rock and my headlight came off second best

Does anyone know where I can source a Bosch Headlight (Part number 1 305 504 945) for an 99 X1, the Buell Distributor here in Australia has them for $485 and I am looking for an option to buying a "geniune" Buell Lamp.

The part is not supported by Bosch in Australia except by Buell as an OEM....

$485 for a headlight?! Whoa. You just want the stock glass right? Your bulb and housing are still intact?

I don't know the PIAA p/n, but Tat carries the high output bulbs that slip right in. Or did you want a different answer?

=====
Brad,
Does this help? It should be the PIAA bulb site.

$485 AUD= $278.97 USD

Still pricey. I paid $150 for the headlight assebmly. The guy at the parts counter said he couldn't order just the glass. If I had had the time to do the research and find the Bosch glass by itself, I think I would have saved quite a bit of money. If anybody needs the headlight shell without the glass, I'll part with it for the shipping cost.

Went to start my '97 S1 after it sat for 6 weeks. Nothing. No light, no click, no nuthin, battery was dead flat. Dealer charged the Odyssey battery, it's good as new.
Jumped a good car battery with big cables right to the hot starter lug and a big ground nut and the starter just clicks. If you keep going, it will turn the motor maybe a half turn, then just click, etc., etc. The bike has no history of similar problems, it's been fine since new. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a short or break somewhere. Check resistance between positive and ground attach points? If infinite, you have a break; if near zero, you have a short. Use your multimeter to trace to the bad spot.

ASB to the rescue.
Called Melanie, she set me up. I went for the Xenon job.
BTW, the just got the official occupancy papers for their new shop!
No more sneeking around at night and having to use forwarded cell phones!

Go ASB!

Re: '97 S1 Above (Starter Problem)
Thanks Blake. There are no shorts or opens in the battery attach points because I did not attach to the battery cables at all. I attached the hot to the hot lug on the starter solenoid, the ground to a big engine nut so there's plenty of power supplied. I suppose the starter relay could be bad which might drain the battery AND cause the starter to not be able to draw enough current. Not sure.

Pilot, thank you for the help, unfortunately it is an odd size Headlight. The Harleys use a standard 7" Lamp that most older cars use and are therefore available in lots of brands and are inexpensive. However the X1 looks to be a 7 1/2" Lamp. (I have physically compared it between a 7 and 8" Lamp)

I have tried to get Truck lamps today (in multiple brands as well), but they appear to be 8"..... I am really looking for an outlet that has that particular Bosch part number in stock, I object in principle to purchasing the whole assembly at the outrageous price....

Do Not forget that even though Americans ride on the right side of the road we ride on the correct side and need the light to dip to the left. I looked up the parts manual and Buell do not list seperate parts for international models.Check out the Ducati monster range , a hunch tells me they may fit or even the lamp assembly may be lower priced. keep us informed.

Humm,Pilot, you could be right about the Duc.parts.Back in 2000 i went to a Ducati dealer to see the bikes in person,i didnt look too closely at the Monster's headlight, but i remember being surprised to see the 996 used the same turn signals as a Y2k M2.Maybe more Duc.+buell lighting parts interchange.

What modifications will I have to make to get LED (one little bulb in each) mini turn signal lamps (Joker Machine) to work on my 97 S1 ? Will I have to install some kind of load leveling device? Thanks for the kick %&* website!

Concerning the "dip to the left"... If you are referring to the position wrt center of the low beam versus the high beam, I'm pretty sure my low beam is right of center (away from oncoming traffic) with high beam being pretty much centered. So the domestic USA Buell headlight would actually dip to the right (away from traffic), right? :)
