So can I whine about how the hex bolt on the RS's shifter scratches up my Sidi's? I'm goin to try taking a Dremel to it and smothing its out a little. |

For practical reasons our VIN's where stamped out in batches prior to bikes being built. Because of this the date on the VIN label may not reflect the actual build date. BUT the model year on the VIN will be the actual model year for the bike regardless of when the bike was built. This is not to say that there might be '91 spec bikes with '90 model designations or vice versa. We were working hard to make bikes and having precise model year changeovers were not the top priority. The bike were really built by type, with the big chagnes being the obvious ones, the 1200 motor, than the RS, than the RS 5 speed thanthe RSS. There were model variations inside of those such as Califorina Kit bikes, Japan bikes, German bikes, English bikes, etc. The biggest change there was probably the Japanese RSS but most of those things carried over to the US RSS with the exception of non-folding footpegs. |

Ok folks, I hit the old Buell trifecta today! Dave at Twin Cites HD/Buell in Lakeville (MN) owns THREE of them! Here's the rundown. 1987 RR1000 Serial #03, Black/Orange/White 1990 RR1200 Serial #13, Black/Gold 1990 RR1200 Serial #16, Black/Gold He also has and S1 and a S2 if memory serves. In all he has 46 or so bikes! Mostly HD's. Wow! Brad

Josh, at one time White Bros in CA was a dealer for WP forks and could do whatever was needed.

>>>>Tell them Court sent ya. They'll charge ya double. If you can get "Little Mikey Kruger" to them them, it will have been worth it. He's good....VERY GOOD. Court P.S. - I have a GREAT story of his work having, in all liklihood, prevented a major mototastrophe after my riding partners bike was backed into..."lightly". Remind me to tell you. |

Josh; as always I can highly recommend Traxxion Dynamics. They did my S2 forks - and they did a bunch of S2 forks for Buell racers, when that was the hot set-up in Pro Thunder. They know and stand behind their stuff. Henrik |

Gotta hypothetical technical question: would a late tube-frame aluminum swingarm fit a 91 RS? I know there are some differences in the rear motor mount specs, for example I tried to mount a front sprocket cover and brace from an S2, and the brace was longer than the one on my RS. I got looking the other day and figured a polished aluminum unit would look mighty good around that PM wheel. Please don't chastise me for wanting to alter a national relic. If you look at the pic in my profile, you'll see it's far too late for that! AL |

I posted the question above about a week ago - got no response. Can anyone answer that for me? there has been numerous swingarms of this type on ebay for pretty cheap, and I've been wondering if it's possible to do. This is not a big priority for me, I really need to get my turbo in for a rebuild first! I wouldn't mind anyone's opinions on how the aluminum swingarm would look on the RS, whatdya think? AL |

Allan,I had one on my S-2 for awhile. It bolts right up,but under heavy load/big bump it would contact frame where the 2 downtubes angle down from under seat.Took it off when I lowered the bike for Bonneville.P.S. need matching rear fender and stock axle was a tad longer ,used a washer on each end. |

WP just like the S2s I faxed Buell a list of parts needed (wellnuts, mising washers etc etc) before I found cracks in the leg. I'm waiting to hear back on that - I'll ask about the leg then. The RS looks kind o funny with no body work or suspension Thanks for the response, I'll email KTM. Hmm wonder if my local shop (4? yr KTM dealer) can round one up.

two more issues: The seat is wearing on the body work in a few places, plus the fender rubs on the fork. Any ideas what I could protect the body with? The swingarm where it attaches to the shock has evidence of corrosion: a white powdery substance and flaking paint. Any one seen this before? |

Thanks for the heads-up but I broke down and bought a NOS leg from Buell. Yow there went the $$ I was saving for FJR goodies. RS should be back together later this week depending on suspension arrival. Good news is what I thought was leaking rocker box gaskets was just a poor crinkle black paint job plus a leaking breather bolt.

The all you need is an RS kickstand. It (unlike the HD inspired S2 stand) leaves you standing. now where's my RS vs S2 lean-to-ride pic...

>> The all you need is an RS kickstand well, my the parts guy at my local dealer gives me funny looks when I respond "95 S2" to the "year make model" question at the parts counter. I think I'm going to go in and order a 91 RS sidestand just for shits and giggles. Course if they have one in stock that means I have to get rid of the chicken strips while its moving now |

Philly, you will have to order that stand direct from East Troy. You will get some real runny answers if you ask for that at most dealers. Josh can you post the number? |

Court said they were the same. I have asked that question as well and am awaiting an answer. In other news, Trackside Engineering and EFB Designs have come through in record fashion and really went above and beyond to get my suspension taken care of. I now have a rebuilt shock, rebuilt left fork and new right fork. Hopefully the RS will be back together this week. I'll post more info about Trackside as soon as they send the bill (yes that's right they shipped the parts back priority after finishing them over the weekend and I have yet to see a bill).

I went out and looked at the RSS and the S-2 sideplates....The Sideplate on the RSS is a lot shorter than the S-2.....lack of passenger pegs I would think. the lower bracket that holds the kickstand, actually looks pretty close to the same angle....I was surprised...I thought the S-2 was drastically different, which gave the lean angle..maybe it is only the sidestand, etc? Keep me posted...would really like to get the bike more upright on the stand, than the extreme lean angle of the S-2. Thanks, REX |
