fuel runs out of ham can and on to heat shield

'95 S2, stock engine, Supertrap, carb needle shimmed and #45 slow jet

Ideas before I tear in and explore the float level? Enough fuel seeps out of the ham can to stain the heat shield each ride and get the pant leg smellin' flammable. ; )

With the air cleaner off, there is a good amount of fuel mist when I whack the throttle. Normal?

Before I explore float adjustment. Has anyone else already seen this before?

Looks like it could be a stuck float valve. Drop the float bowl and clean out the valve. Also, check the float level while you're in there.

Could be from the breather or over oiling the aircleaner.....

My S2 leaks a bit too but not that bad. I've got a spare carb somewhere that I'm planning to fix up and slip on. Probably like they said, just pull the carb and do a service/clean on it.

my money's on a sticking float valve to -- the trusty MaDeuece was exhibiting the same behavior (ask Outie what fun it is to ride with a guy that has to use his petcock as a float bowl valve ;-} )

replace the valve, valve seat and float while your there, I say -- parts, $20. Non gassy pants, priceless (not to mention what the witch's brew we call gasoline today will do to the powder coat on your engine)

Comparing the old seal to the new one, the new seal (27577-XX) doesn't have the extra circle for the accelerator pump nozzle. I've looked in a number of parts manuals for Buells & HD's but can't find a different number or one that shows the extra circle. My guess is that the seal around the accelerator pump nozzle just isn't needed though there is a channel for a seal on the carb float bowl.
from top-new seal, old seal, carb bowl

Anyone else experience this?

I discovered the correct p/n is 27577-92. The wrong one is p/n 27577-88

A follow up - carb is better now after new bowl seal, float valve and float adjustment. I still can't leave the fuel on (overnight) without getting some past the overflow/vent tube. Perhaps just the lean of the S2....
