After everyone has had a good laugh, I'm looking for info on what other motorcycle maunfactors front end would fit on a 1999 Thunderbolt frame. My son and I received a frame with swingarm for a case of beer. We mounted a Honda 750 engine, worked out the swingarm problem and now we are looking for a cheap front end. I was hoping that an Interceptor or Ducati front end would fit. Thanks |

Y'all sound like gluttons for punishment! This is no laughing matter but very serious. I just looked at my pic of my old 72 CB750 Honda and the sprocket is on the same side as a big twin. True, you can turn the Buell wheel around but then it will be mismatched with the front. As for a suitable front end why not just put a on a Thunderbolt front end or even an M2 Cyclone front end? They are always turning up on eBay. True, if you are a machinist you can fit up any front end to any frame but it's a lot of work. I've made several sets of custom triple trees for my various Harleys and all took a lot of man hours to fabricate. Also if you use a mismatched front end you're always going to have mismatched wheels. Just something to consider. KK |

Thanks KK. The cost of even used Buell parts is still much higher then used Jap parts. I will keep my eyes open on Ebay. I'm not using the original Buell wheels, they came from another donor bike. With wheel spacers and the fact that I can side the motor 1/2" left or right allowed me an almost perfect center wheel alignment. I mounted the exhaust on the other-side to ensure that the center of gravity point was still in the center. So far it all seems ok. Once I get a front end I'll know for sure how of balance the bike is. Which means back to the drawing board. |
