Sorry for the duplicate post. I put this in the castalloy wheel thread originally. The left front wheel bearing on my 2000 M2 has come apart at 17,000 miles. The bearing cage which keeps the balls aligned to one another has failed and is coming apart. Checking the archives I did not find any failures like this. I first noticed a line of grease on the axle, then saw the grease seal popped off, and then looked closer to see the cage coming apart. I limped for about 10 miles until it started to get rough and noisy. Used a truck to get it the rest of the way home. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks, Mark

Can anyone tell me symptoms of front wheel bearing failure? I noticed on my way home from work my M2 felt like it was being held back, vibaration. I stomped on both brakes and didn't seem to be the problem. I did notice some black residue on my axle on the oppisite side of Rotor. |

Mick: Have you ever replaced the front isolator? (Engine mount) Mine tore at 12000 miles on the S3T. It felt the same way you describe it. Also, check the exhaust/muffler for all mount conditions. They will give the same feeling. Mark Schroeder |

CycloneMick... Suspend the one end then the other of the bike from the rafters / ladder with a comealong and spin the wheels. If there is a problem, it will probably be obvious. Also, when spinning the rear wheel in neutral with the back wheel off the ground (a rod through the hollow axle and two jackstands will also do this easily) listen for crunchy or sticky noises from the front sprocket. They will be subtle if there, but noticable. |

XB with 15670 miles developed some gravelly wheel bearings, and had a strange handling quirk, very hard to explain, but damn sure wasn't right. put a new scorpion sync on today, and while i was at it put in new NTN 6005's. seems to ride a lot better now. |
