My recall shock on the S1 has blown and i got a replacement new style showwa (with front mount, thanks buelliedan) to replace it. My question is, according to the Buell bulletin, you are to discard the bolts that hold the old style motor mount, and use new ones (supplied with the recall kit) to install the new mount! is this necessary? or just precautionary? i do not have the mentioned bolts, and was wondering if using the old ones will suffice? Thanks in advance. |

I am in the same position you are in as I am building a Frankenstein Buell [made up of eBay parts]. I presume that the reason for the recall was that the old bolts were either breaking or the nuts were vibrating loose. So I am going to buy Grade 8 3/8"-24 [NF] for the motor mount screws and put red loctite on those babies and hope for the best. Buellers tell me if I'm wrong. KK |

I'd go ahead o and use the new ones -- the shock recall wasn't due to the fasteners, but, heck, ya got em, it doesn't add much to the work to use em, and new bolts holding your scoot off the pavement has gotta be a good thing KD -- ya likely can't go wrong, unless you get your grade 8s from the hardware store -- scarey stuff there, if ya don't know the source . . . make sure your getting good stuff, and Loctite is always a blessing ;-} |
