Blake, Thanks for doing so much math (wow). The oem lever is 4.5" long. This setup's lever is 6.0" (not 7.5) with a 10mm (.393") diameter arm (it was an old mirror arm I had laying around). Based on how hard it was to bend, there appears little chance of bending it in in normal use. Even so, the new versions will use a rectangular billet arm (the rod is too uncivilized). Total lever movement is alot less than stock because the heims and wide nylon pivot bushings take out all unneccesary slack. The only remaining slack movement is a result of a poor fit of the pawl spring behind the primary cover (I plan to eliminate that next). I will likely make the production versions with two possible fulcrum mount points on the L arm to allow for ever shorter (but slightly stiffer) shifts. All in all, it offers a very "japanese" feeling shifts. Unfortunately my peg pivot arm will pretty much eliminate the use of peg based centerstands (I built my centerstand to hold on a rod through the rear axle).... for me, the shifts are worth the stand inconvienience. My aol is keeping me from posting other pix right now. Ping me if you want me to mail the other view. Harry in AZ |

Harry: Interesting, the lever on my '00 M2 with old style pivot at the peg is 6", so I guess the factory knew what it was doing eh? The 10mm diameter will make a huge difference compared to the 1/4" estimate I used. You have no worries. I'm with you on the improved appearance of a billet arm though. Blake PS: Heck yeah, send me the other pic! blake@badweatherbikers.com |

I'll second the Mobil 1 gear lube in the tranny. I like it better than the Redline, and that was good. My trick to 1st is to pull in the clutch, wait a few seconds, and then kinda slowly shift into 1st. 50% of the time you can hardly hear it go into gear, the other 50% it kinda clunks. I don't stomp it like I see too many people do. Just my $0.02 Time4Sleep Neil S. p.s MRR sorry I missed ya this weekend. Bud's has a demo V-rod, got any ideas? |

Can you guys please be more specific about the Mobil 1 trans lube? I have never seen it in the apto parts or department stores. Does it come in various weights/viscosities? I've been hunting for something better than Sport Trans for years! Russ |

Ara - It's Mobil1 Gear Lube. Most auto parts stores in Richmond, Va stock it on the shelves. The stuff I buy comes in 75-90w viscosity. |

Any ideas on what your cost is going to end up being for that new shifter Harry? The wife balances the checkbook now, so these things take a little more planning I always liked the Banke setup, but did not want to relocate the pegs back. Plus, the $300 cost was a bit high for those of us more concerned with function then appearence. If you could put this thing together for $100 or so (what I think I paid for the Buell unit), I think your sales would do very well, and Buell would suddenly find their sales at near zero... I am still a little annoyed that a redesigned part still seemed to have some pretty obvious flaws... Bill |

PC, Not to be a jerk but the first idea that comes to my mind based on your problem statement is a new bike. "serious miles" and "pegs forward" don't seem to go together with an S1 seat. If you can't lift your ass off the tiny seat on occasion because the pegs are too far forward to get the right leverage, that seat will just kill you. That said, I may go on the all-california ride on my S1W this spring. I think I'll schedule the ass-ectomy for when I return, however. There won't be much left of it after the 2k trip. Ouch! Al |

Porkchopo . . . .my kneees are also shot (mostly due to my hurling myself against the planet at a high rate of speed way to often when my hair has a different color . . . . .) I've found that a GOOD knee brace can really help me . . . .it took awhile to get to where I could cinch it up to the right degree of tightness around my knee, but, once I got it right, it added hours to my seat time . . . . .now, it's my bladder and gas tank that decide how far I go . . . . . . |

Can anyone post a picture on the M2 rearset available at ASB (fitted on a bike)?? I'm eager to get hold of a rearset that both looks good and functions properly... there seems to be different disadvantages with for ex Banke or Crossroads. Since the cost for a decent rearset is quite high and I'm rather safe than sorry when ordering... so feel free to make comments on this topic. I'm currently fitting a new shorter/narrower c-f tailsection and twin headlights on the bike (I guess I'm going for the German-style aggressive "streetfighter" look on the 'ol deuce). Cheers and thanks Guys/ Jojje |

Left Peg N0403.Q $6.95 Right Peg N0404.Q $6.95 (See top of page) I ordered some of these pegs today but the price has gone up to $13.26 each now. They are $24.95 each at Canadain dealers (Cdn dollars). They are going to look good on my M2! |

Hi All. Well, I've had my bike (2000 S3)for 5 whole days now, and it took me about a day to discover that I REALLY hate the shifter on it. I've been thinking of changing over to the 2001 style shifter setup. Has anybody done this? If so how does it work? I feel like I need to do something and I really don't want to spend the money for the Banke set-up right now. Thanks! Bill AZ |

Bill: Go with the 2001 shifter. You will like the change. Banke makes a very, very good product and for what you get it is worth the $'s, but being a cheap ass, I went with the 2001 and the oil-lite bushings from American Sport Bike. When you get some miles on your bike you may want to try the Mobile 1 gear lube. I had a good shifting X-3, and now it is a great shifting X-3. Time2Ride Neil S. |

The CRG billet bar end mirrors are great, I love 'em on my S1W. However, I lane split daily for 10-15 miles up I5, and I worry about the dreaded mirror tick that's gonna happen someday. Check out the new CRG mirror: Pretty cool, eh? |

I was wondering if anyone has used a Corbin seat for their 95 S2 that accepts a removeable seatrest? the corbin catalog says it can be used with the seatrest but ive heard different. The corbin part #'s are ds-902043 for the seat and ds-902558 for the backrest. so many conflicting answers ive gottem. my girl wont ride without a seatrest, she worries about falling off. thanks Jason h |

Jason: Awhile ago I called Corbin to ask for a Gunfighter & Lady seat w/ backrest. At that time they didn't sell one. Let me know if you find out differently. Henrik |

Jason, Last time I checked. The seatrest is for the S3 seat, not the S2. It is not clear in the catalog. Isn't she supposed to hold on tighter? That what happens on BMW's. |

The corbin catalog says it will fit, i dont wanna spend alot of $$ if it doesnt... check cas4's site for details, they are pretty cheap for some stuff...follow this url for the seat. http://www.cas4.com/Buell/Seats-Saddles/corbin/Buell%20Seats%20by%20Corbin.htm Jason |

Jason: Check out Corbin's own site They have the right info and cheaper prices. However, how much effort do you think they put into S2 seats when they don't even have the years right Henrik |

Not Buell quality, but good enough for a Sportster. Just wanted to show what can be done with a drillpress and slide table, a couple of hole saws, and about eight dozen beers. In hindsight, the heavy-looking caps weren't necessary. Just bolting the bar onto the grooved bottom would be sufficient. In this pic the pinch bolts aren't yet countersunk and the pinch slot not cut yet.

Has anyone tried to use the Banke footpeg relocation kit sold by Sporttwin on a 2000 M2? My bike has been upgraded to the 2001 style shifter and I wondered if I relocate the footpegs if I could use a shift lever for an X1 to make it reachable. |

Which 01 shifter kit would fit on a 96 S1? Somebody must have done this. (Tripper?) I did the search thing but found nothing. |
