JD: print this out and take it with you. Get them to call Buell and get authorization like it says. Buell will approve it. Buell promised us new shocks to replace SRP equipped shocks in the recall letter. The kicker is that the promise is conditional upon the owner objecting to the appearance of the SRP. Repeat after me, "The SRP is ugly, the SRP is ugly ...". Buell is keeping the promise. Another tip, if the dealer tries to charge you $100, claiming that Buell charged him $100 for the shock, cry foul. The way the accounting is done on this deal, they get that money back another way. But most dealers never bothered to read the letter that explains how. Call Buell Customer Service if you have to. It's a shame so many dealers aren't up to speed on Buell service issues and company policies surrounding them. We run into this all the time. Just the other day, I had to convince my dealer that yes, the trashed isolators on my '99 M2 were, in fact, covered by warranty. Buell sends them the notices but they can't force them to read'em. But I have to give credit to Buell ... not only are they doing the right thing by standing behind their product (and keeping their word) in cases like this, but they've also let these service bulletins out to us, back door, so that us owners know what the hell is going on. In a perfect world, where all the dealers were like Modesto, they wouldn't have to do that. But they know it's not a perfect world so they've done it. I, for one, appreciate it. AW | ||

Orion, As promised (sorry I'm a day late, sh*t happens!). Here's the pics of the Eclips tanks bag mounting. It's really very simular to the Buell tank bag. The "holder" strap idea was stolen from MikeJ  . Sorry for the less than perfect pics, I had to use the picture capture on my camcorder. Digital cam is on the fritz, I'm lusting for a new one. These are the three straps, the bottem one is the "holder" strap for when the tank bag is off the bike. The other two are the front mounting straps that attach around the frame tube in front of the tank. I didn't take a pic of the rear strap as it is pretty much the same as the front.  This shot is the "holder" stap in place to keep the front straps from falling down.  This is a front view of the "holder" strap in place.  Last pic is of front of tank bag in place.  | ||

The above pics don't have the foam rubber stuff under the plastic clips. You can see in the last pic the tank bag has protective rubber under the front clip. I have the same type thing attach to the "holder" strap. I left them off for clairity. Even though the tank bag has rubber on the bottom, I will use a protective pad in the future. When I got back from Colorado, I had to polish out a few dull spots. Brad | ||

Oh, hell just run the plastic clips through your wire/ cables on your handlebar and you won't have to worry. Bluzm2, it is a neat idea, but I carry too much stuff on Stripe'r anyway, as you have noticed. Later Neil S. | ||

HELP! (I seem to be getting stupid in my dotage) I have purchased an Aegis tank mask, and I just cannot seem to grasp how the clips, which have a "Z" profile seen end-on, are supposed to attach to the tank. The instructions SEEM to want me to attach the clips to a flat projection on the tank (like a paper clip) but there isn't one. When I went back to the dealer to ask, service was too busy to talk to me (by the time I got there, it was about an hour `till closing) I have read all the Knowledge Vault: Accessories postings and searched this site. I just know this is going to be a DUH!! kind of answer, but I want to do it right. Please keep in mind that I service my own ride, and its 190 miles round-trip (half of it two lane) to the nearest ACTUAL Buell dealer. This is nice in the summer, but means $25 fuel/toll (truck) or 3-4 hours rain?/cold/LOOK OUT!!! (bike). The dealer has been rather helpful, but is becoming less and less interested as they realize I am only going to buy parts from them. | ||

Oz666, Are you are referring to the clips with the velcro stuff on them? if so they do not attach to your tank but instead they attach to the front part of your tail section just ahead of the seat front and under the tank. Does that make sense. if not send me an e-mail. | ||

Question on Installing S2 Fairing Bags. I just got a pair of the S2 Fairing Bags which mounted up nicely. The bags came with a small wire bracket and attachment bolt, but did not come with instructions on where to mount this bracket. The Owners Manual and Factory Service Manual have no guidance either. The bracket appears to be a newer version of part #57987-95Y on page 68 of the '95/'96 S2 Parts Catalog. Unfortunately, the Parts Catalog is of little help as well in determining the mounting location. The bracket appears as if it might be designed to hold the throttle cables away from the right fairing bag. Further, it looks like it would nicely attach to the forward attachment point of the Fairing Link bracket, part #58893-95Y on page 54 of the Parts Catalog. On my particular S2 (CA model with Qwiksilver Carb) the throttle cables seem to provide more than adequate clearance without the bracket installed. Soooooooooooooo... Last weekend I had a Pin-Lock anti-fog shield installed into my helmet. The weather is absolute s h i t over here so this was the perfect time to test it and ... IT IS FANTASTIC! I have not had any condensation or fog on the inside of my visor since. I don't have to pull my visor up to see; it stays closed from start to finish. Safer and a lot warmer as well. Big up for Pin-Lock. Sybren. | ||

V2win, I couldn't find much info on the net so I will ask my dealer. Keep U posted. In short: it is a plastic shield with a thicker silicone edge that is installed to the inside of the visor. Thus, the small insulated layer of air keeps the visor fog-free. 2 small holes are drilled through the original visor to keep the shield in place with plastic pins. You do see the edge of the shield but it isn't annoying. The shield can be removed for cleaning. Or remove the shield in good weather and you are left with your (nearly) original visor. There are also pin-lock shields that have a UV filter. Simple, effective and it works. | ||

I checked it out and I'm afraid I made you happy with a dead bird. Apparently, the Pinlock company wanted to export their anti-fog shield to the Amarican market but the legal risks were too high. If the shield would fail, the Pinlock company could be held responsible. That would be the end of this small company. I was even advised not to give their product to an American as this would make me responsible! American law is weird. Sybren. | ||

The little woman enjoys riding with me but would feel more comfortable and secure if there was a backrest. I thought about the RKA system and even a Corbin seat with backrest but would rather not go that route. I had thought about getting some flat bar or rod stock an aftermarket pad and seeing what I could cobble up. Has anyone gone this route or have suggestions. | ||

Has anyone tried the roadgear sport saddlebags on an M2? In doing a quick survey they seem to have a very large capacity and a unversal mounting system. Just wondering if anyone has any experience before I buy. | ||

Ever heard of the buddy belt or whatever it's called. A belt that the driver wears that has handles for the passenger to hold to. | ||

The buddy belt can be found in those small ads in the back of Motorcyclist, or Cycle World. It works well is what I hear. | ||

Blake Don't you have the Ventura setup or am I confused (I'm new around here so it's very possible)? Does your passenger feel uneasy reaching behind them for the bar when coming to a stop? To me, it would just seem a little awkward, but then again, I don't ride back there. Thanks Jason | ||

Uwgriz/Jason, The Ventura rack is rated to only 25 Lbs and is not supposed to be a grab rail. That doesn't stop anyone for using it as such, it's just that I remember the instructions that came with mine said that about the rack (if I remember right). Where your passenger grabs depends on how cozy the two of you are. And if I ever have to ride on back I ain't grabbin nothin but the bike. MikeJ | ||

Jason: I don't have too many passengers. When I do, they are usually good lookin' so I make 'em hold on to the pilot real tightly.  Mike: Get the "Grab Rail" to go in place of the rack when you aren't touring. It is WAY stout. Here's a pic...  | ||

Used the Chase-Harper saddlebags on my S2 before I got the Buell hard bags, they are great. Only problem was they fade...They are now on a friends Duc 916, this is 6 years later.. Still use the tank bag. Amazing what you can squeeze in them... | ||

I have an opportunity for used S3T hard bags at a reasonable price. But before spending my bucks, I'd like to figure out what I should do exactly to the frame of my 00 M2 Cyclone for installing these bags. I'd appreciate any input (especially pictures) of anyone having done so or who would know what is supposed to be done (welding etc...). In addition, is it possible to buy separately the S3T mounting hardware for the bags and is it the kind of thing which can also be found used ? Thanks in advance. Special note for Josh (if you're still on the BBS) : you said before that you explained this on the BBS but unfortunately it's not archived anymore... | ||

Jerome: you can buy the mounting hardware seperately. Unfortunately it doesn't come as a kit, so you'll be buying each part as a "spare", and will be at your dealers mercy as far as pricing. I don't have any experience as far as mounting on an M2 goes. Henrik |
