Charlie is right about the route around New Mexico and the 191/666. As far as changing the route, I'd have to say NO. We can shave off the trip through Jerome in favor of the rip across the pass down into Verde valley. That may save a little time, but is still a quick ride. I feel the route is pretty much locked in guys, lets not try changing things now that we've got most of the plans laid out, ok? I'm not sure how long it takes to get from Phoenix to Showlow. I have done the 191 from Phoenix in one day, we left Gilbert at 0600 went east on the 60 to Safford, then up to Morienci and on up to Alpine, and then Showlow. We met some NM riders in Clifton, and rode with them as far as Alpine, then they peeled off and headed back to Albuqurque. We came back down 60 through the Salt river canyon, got speeding tickets and then made it back into Phoenix around 1800hrs. about a 12 hour day. I'll have tools with me also, for the tubers, I'll not be bringing any tire irons though. BBB |

Tools, who needs any stinkin tools. 50,000mi. & the only tool I needed was from a CBR when my front brake stuck coming back from Newfie's land. Just kidding, I always carry the essentials on a trip. Being an Eagle Scout-I'm prepared. Oh yeah, a 5th guy just said tonight that he's interested in coming. |

Mike, You've got me included in this count of yours too, right? I'm in for anything, you run out of trailer room (I'd rather ride anyway), I can provide some break in miles for the new(er) XB I'll have then. I'm an Eagle Scout AND a farmer, give me a leatherman and some baling wire and I can make anything work. Bart will need sparkplug wrenches though. DDay of my move west is the end of the month, start on Feb 1st. Let me get settled in a bit, perhaps we can meet up at the Waterloo Chili cookoff or somewhere inbetween our towns for a few beers, catch up and hatch some plans. How's Drew like school? Alex Bart, 666 from Utah into Colorado is awesome (You know I couldn't miss that road), hit that the morning we departed BLANDing. I'm sure AZ is about the same, really looking forward to this trip and hanging again. Ping me your cell number when you get a chance, wanted to give you a shout in the upcoming weeks. Alex |

"We need to trim the route down some, probably. I think the New Mexico/Hwy 191 is a must ride. The spars are also, but the distance from the base point may make this route to long. Everyone's got their favorite roads, we can't get them all in. The distance is just too great. I think two 300-400 mile days would suffice. That's still 4 days for the Cali folks. " I thought shortening the route is what you were suggesting... Just brain storming. I'm all for not shortening the route . |

Welcome CycloneLady, Your gonna love our riding season down here. We certainly hope you can make the SpringFast it should be a real enjoyable ride. Alex, "Bart will need sparkplug wrenches though." Meany! LOL The S2 motor has been gone through and is just waiting for me to pick it up in Sante Fe, NM. I'll be up there next week to get it. Hopefully no more fouled plugs to deal with. I emailed my # to you. looking forward to seeing and riding with you again. Good luck with your move. M1, yes, we did discuss shortening the route in the beginning, but everyone wanted their favorite roads, so we set the route according to that. I think we have a good route laid out, granted, it may be a little long the first day, but I believe we're all up to the task. We ain't Scairt!!!

Art- Your route is perfect for us coming from the great white north. We will drop the tow vehicles and spend the night at Show Low and come in on 60 the next day. That way we can head home from there saturday night. Alex- You're one of us now. As we get a little closer we can pin down transportation. A guy at work (Road King & not in the count) is thinking about coming out with some other HD guys. They have a lead on a 20' enclosed trailer (figures doesn't it). I am going to let them make their own arrangements. If we don't get together before, you should plan on coming to our BRAG meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. |

So, lets make sure I have this right: We leave the ROK (republik o' Kalifornia) Thursday 4/21 eve (or whereever/whenever for others more distant), as long as we are in the Phoenix general area, bikes unloaded, packed and ready to ride on Friday, April 22nd, at 9AM or so. Details of the ride kickoff location need to be figured out. It'd be nice if we were all converging on the same location Thursday night, as that's when the real BS sessions start. Any trailers will already need to be stashed away by 9AM on Friday. Friday, 4/22, we ride, following Bartimus's exhaust. Saturday night we are in Showlow, so we should be making reservations for there now. Saturdays ride follows much of the same route as the BRAG Torquefest adventure, ends up back in Showlow for Saturday night. Sunday, we loop back into Phoenix by late afternoon, and us folks from far away depart from Phoenix Sunday eve. Is that correct? We have recommendations and numbers for the Days Inn in Showlow for Friday/saturday night. Can we get Friday night a little bit nailed down for places to stay/trailer drop offs and such? I think that's been discussed, but I'm not sure. Bartimus, if you could take what I wrote above, compile it all into one message with dates/times, hotel phone numbers, etc., I'm sure it would be helpful. It's only three months away from TODAY!!!! REALLY looking forward to it. This ride will be a good catharsis for those of us that witnessed the tragic events of Torquefest. Jerry, bring your speech.... Al |

Jerry, bring your speech.... roger that. i've hung with and ridden with Bart now on several occasions, and he's a good man for this sort of thing: he likes to have big fun when he rides, he LOVES putting group rides like this together, he's safe 'n sane (well, REASONABLY sane... ), and he's been around the world enough to know that we're all merely mortals and that pain, well, it hurts. D and i are really looking forward to this ride, meeting old friends, making new ones, and living, eating and breathing the passion, adventure and camaraderie that seems to surround this sport we all love so much. yeah, i'll give a speech, but my guess is that the people who attend Springfast 2005 will already have their helmets screwed on the right direction anyways. can't wait!!! Been lurking on the board for a while. Are you guys running a list of attendees to the AZ Springfest? I would like to add my name to the list. |

Wannabuell, you are more than welcome to attend! Court, Our good friend, Fast Ferris Bueller, is quite right. Most of the attendees will have their helmets screwed on properly, but it is understood that with a ride of this size, and the terrain we will be covering, a pre-ride speech is, of course, required. I believe I have a copy of his speech from the OctoberFast, that he posted here on the board. I copied it for just this reason, as the wisdom he spouts most of the time is right on the money. Jerry, You are MORE than welcome to give the speech as I am a little weak in the public speaking department, LOL, (yea, yea, I know what your thinking) But there WILL be forms to fill out, and safety speeches to be given BEFORE the kickstands go up. AL, I posted earlier, (it is archived now) Hotel locations, and phone numbers to some hotels in my area, along the I-17 corridor. Questions have been raised as to the starting location. Some feel we should just meet at a good point along the highway with good access in the direction of Wickenburg. I felt that meeting for breakfast so we could all meet, and talk, was a good idea. I chose the Dennys location because it is close to where most of the out of towners would be staying. BUT, I am thinking that the others may be right, and we should meet at the begining of the ride route, instead of IN town. (still tossing this idea around) what think you? I am on the road alot these days, due to my work. I know I planned to post all the details before the end of the month. I will still try to hold myself to that. I am leaving in an hour for Albuquerque, New Mexico for a few weeks of work, and to pick up one of my Buells from Sante Fe, and visit with Murrae and the other New Mexico riders. I should have time, next weekend to get the facts together and update the board. (unless the weather is Beulltiful in New Mexico, to which I would feel obligated to ride and explore the surroundings) I do try not to let anything get in the way of riding... (including work, as Alex and Ferris can attest to, LOL But seriously, I'll get it all posted before the end of the month. |

Mike, I'll be back in Iowa (actually IL) in a week, I'll give you a ring once I'm settled and all. Brad, Look forward to meeting you, it's going to be an awesome trip. You're not all that far away, we can work on a lunch trip sometime this spring. Bart, Never said anything bad about you, although some of the stories from Utah and the stuff we did found its way to Newfoundland... Can't wait to burn some roads again. Just hope I can keep up. |
