Over the past 30 years I have attended several motorcycle rallys that were manufacturer and/or model specific. There have been Yamaha, Yamaha FJR, Ducati, and BMW. Sometimes, I rode my Buell. (My friends owned the "appropriate" rally bike.) I usually had a great time and would connect with the same people over the years. Also, riding in so many interesting places was exceptional. I once attended the annual Buell rally in Wisconsin at the Buell factory. I met Eric and took the factory tour. I swore I would return each year, but H-D closed the doors right after that. I was curious as to whether or not any other Buell riders were interested in creating an annual BORG centered rally? I would be more than interested in organizing such an event. Even if it started out with just a few people, who knows, it might get to be like a rare car club, after all, we are riding some very beautiful and exceptional motorcycles. If you believe this would be something of interest let me know. If there is already something like this around and I have missed it, please let me know. Who knows it might be so much fun that, resistance is futile.

I did it in 1987 when Phil Wolfe, Dr. Don Chase and I secured the rights to the name BUELL OWNERS CLUB and started a small group. There were about a dozen Buell owners in the world and we kept track of folks on a sheet of legal paper. It was a big deal (I still have the roster somewhere) when we "turned the page" and started on the 2nd page.

At that time . . . events were at the old Quonset Hut and were mostly RR-1000, RR-1200 with a couple RS-120's tossed in.

Later on . . . things morphed to Buell Owners Group and we held 3 iterations of the "First Annual Buell Owners Rallys" . . . the closest thing to "official" was the one organized by Amy Guiffre and Nola from Harely-Davidson that took place in Arkansas. Fun event, except for the 9 Buell that got driven off the roads.

A couple years later . . . things morphed too B.R.A.G. . . . arguably a Mike Hilman offshoot . . . which stood for Buell Owners Adventure Group. There were some awesome carryings on.

Harley-Daivdson, foolishly in my mind, dispatched Buell 10 years ago, in 2009, and that's pretty much been the end of it. Erik (his name is speckled with a "k") made a couple brief appearances as EBR and then with the HERO/EBR association but that's been history for several years.

Erik and about everybody else who ever had anything to do with Buell have scattered to the winds . . . doing some darn interesting stuff . . . and there us a liquidator/auction company that bought the remnants from the Bankruptcy Trustee and have been introducing new models, essentially left over parts assembled in various combinations for a year of so.

Erik is doing some really exciting stuff and are nearly all of the Buell Elves . . . but, other than some lingering transitions and local groups, the big gatherings seem to have run their course.

And . . . what a course it was.

Erik Buell and his bikes were, and will remain, legendary in the hearts and minds of enthusiasts.

P.S. - At one time some of the most fervent Buell activity was right in your neck of the woods.

Homecoming turnout has been dwindling every year, and is down to about 30. Aagaard Moto Foundry, in Janesville, WI, does a garage night that is actually growng year on year, but is only about 30 bikes. Both are mentioned each year on here. There's a Buell meet in Minneapolis this weekend that is also growing year on year.
