Dan's new username is... Crashmaster_D. I'll look into the details of renting OHR and getting a special "school" set up so we can take advantage of the CMRA discount rate. |

Rode today. Hwy 16 from Helotes to PR 37 to 1235 to Pipe Creek, back on 16 to Bandera. Then 16 into Kerrville. Had to be home early, so I took IH 10 back to SA. Great weather this morning. Again, I had the only Buell in the Group (TSBA). Doing a track day at TWS next Sunday. |

Track day report Had a great time. The new XB9S was fing awsome after I had the suspension dialed in. It was a little underpowered, but we can work on that. There was another Buell there this time !! Guy from Houston. Later |

OK, now for the weekly update ! I did 392 miles today with the Texas Sportbike Association's Houston, Austin, Dalls and San Antonio (I belong)chapters. It was a hoot, but now I know why they call it the Iron Butt ride. My rear end is sore. Buell was Excellent. Always seems to draw a crowd. |

Lance, Oak Hill Raceway... last weekend in September... be there with leathers on. You'll have more fun doing 50 miles than you ever had doing 392. Then you can return for full day track days any time you like. |

Dave, See above post. We start out at Austin HD, ride out to a little place called Camp Live Oak, and spend the weekend and a Monday tearing up the Hill Country. Haven't heard a peep about it this year though. |

Hoot and dave, It is scheduled for the last weekend in Sep. I don't think we are going to get much dealer involvement however so meals and such are still up in the air a bit. |

Alrighty. Dan... I gotta stop by (my) and see your obsessive-compulsive sick-o Buell assortment. I retire from the AF mid-Sep so I'll have some pay check time before I secure a real job and figure out what I want to do when I grow up. You're in San Antonio yeah? Any Austin Buell riders here? Perhaps just a day of riding the local roads to the west and finishing up with a stop at the Oasis, Hard Rock, Chuys (sp?) or something else down town there? I'm looking at mid to late Aug. David, Meet up with the local Buell/Ducati group at the Dog and Duck Pub on Thursday evening around 7:30 (every Thursday 'til the End Of Time!). There'll be folks there that would love to ride with you (and maybe ride your bike!) HellBuelly Jay http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hellbuellies/ "A HellBuelly should never drink Coke in a moving elevator. The chemicals in Coke coupled with the elevator's motion can produce hallucinations. People tend to change into lizards and attack without warning, and large bats will often fly in the window. Additionally, you begin to believe that elevators have windows." --HellBuelly Hunter T

OH CRAP, I almost forgot! "Twisted Texas" runs October 6th, 7th and 8th, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Thrills In The Hills IV is October 8th, 9th and 10th, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Who wants 5 big continuous days of near-nirvana experiences on their Buell, followed by near (or full) cameraderie experiences 'round the campfire? I DO, THAT'S WHO! And so do several of my Buell-Breathin' Bretheren. If you do too, let me know and I'll cough up details on the Thrills part of the gig. Thank you, and have a pleasant day. HellBuelly J http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hellbuellies/ "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the line broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting 'GERONIMO!'" --Anonymous HellBuelly P.S. Well... It started, or rather didn't start, with the starter. The wire connecting the solenoid to the motor somehow ended up with a crack in its insulation, water got into the brushes...no more starter. I pulled the starter, which required that I pull the exhaust, primary, and primary chain. My starter bolts are -just- behind the starter gear behind the clutch basket. Manual says I don't have to pull it, but rearmost bolt hits the gear, and won't come out. Whilst I had the rotor off the crank, I noticed that my crank oil seal was shot, so I replaced it. I put a new solenoid kit in the starter, and cleaned up the brushes. RTV'd the snot out of the offending wire that caused the condition to begin with and reinstalled. Filled bike with oil, engine and primary. Installed new battery. I bumped it a few times to get the oil circulating. I had just changed the filter and I forgot to pre-fill it with oil. Also, the bike hadn't been started in months, so I wanted to go easy on it. Bump. Bump. BumGRIIIINNNND rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Hmmm. Thumbing the starter causes the starter to engage and turn the engine VERY slowly, almost imperceptibly. The battery cables get too got to touch, so I think the starter is engaged and working. It COULD be that the starter is well and truly FiretrUCKed, and that the engine is fine. I took off the primary inspection cover and wiggled the chain. It still has the appropriate amount of slack in it, which tells me that I haven't broken the chain or the tensioner. I am very worried that I bunged up the crank bearing while I was removing the old oil seal. I don't think I hit it, and it didn't LOOK like I hit it, but the seal lives pretty close to it, and I can't be absolutely sure that I didn't screw the pooch. I am hoping that its just the starter. I have a new starter to install, and I'm hoping that I can get it R&R'd tomorrow. Will Jeff's X1 join the ranks of grenaded X1's around the world? Will he offer enough blood to the gods of all things mechanical during the removal to insure a smooth installation? Will he say screw it try to ignore the Reactor Yellow elephant in his garage? Stay tuned for the next episode of, Jeff's Hope, and, As the Engine Turns (maybe). |
