I found this interesting article on line this morning. Minnesota Trooper Writes 205 MPH Ticket WABASHA, Minn. (Sept. 21) - With a State Patrol airplane overhead, a motorcyclist hit the throttle and possibly set the informal record for the fastest speeding ticket in Minnesota history: 205 mph. Talk About It · Chat | Post Messages · Top News Boards On Saturday afternoon, State Patrol pilot Al Loney was flying near Wabasha, in southeastern Minnesota on the Wisconsin border, watching two motorcyclists racing along U.S. Highway 61. When one of the riders shot forward, Loney was ready with his stopwatch. He clicked it once when the motorcycle reached a white marker on the road and again a quarter-mile later. The watch read 4.39 seconds, which Loney calculated to be 205 mph. "I was in total disbelief," Loney told the St. Paul Pioneer Press for Tuesday's editions. "I had to double-check my watch because in 27 years I'd never seen anything move that fast." Several law enforcement sources told the newspaper that, although no official records are kept, it was probably the fastest ticket ever written in the state. After about three-quarters of a mile, the biker slowed to about 100 mph and let the other cycle catch up. By then Loney had radioed ahead to another state trooper, who pulled the two over soon afterward. The State Patrol officer arrested the faster rider, 20-year-old Stillwater resident Samuel Armstrong Tilley, for reckless driving, driving without a motorcycle license - and driving 140 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 65 mph. A search of speeding tickets written by state troopers, who patrol most of the state's highways, between 1990 and February 2004 shows the next fastest ticket was for 150 mph in 1994 in Lake of the Woods County. Tilley did not return calls from the newspaper to his home Monday. A working number for him could not immediately be found by The Associated Press on Tuesday. Only a handful of exotic sports cars can reach 200 mph, but many high-performance motorcycles can top 175 mph. With minor modifications, they can hit 200 mph. Tilley was riding a Honda 1000, Loney said. Kathy Swanson of the state Office of Traffic Safety said unless Tilley was wearing the kind of protective gear professional motorcycle racers wear, he was courting death at 200 mph. "I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you crashed at 200 miles per hour," Swanson said. "But it wouldn't be pretty, that's for sure." 09/21/04 16:39 EDT Copyright 2004 The Associated Press. Can't make it tomorrow. Too much to do at work. I got an eye infection last week, got RX eye drops for it and it made it worse. I'll try for the next one. |

Whatever sounds good... I'd like to stay up north but only because it's hot down there. How about Wickenberg to somewhere east of the Verde on 260? We could head through Jerome... Maybe get lunch there? Jim - Are you around? |

I saw a black and amber 12r with a guy of your build leading a yellow 9s coming out of Jerome headed towards Prescott Saturday. Yeah I ended up going to Sedona for breaakfast, then up to Flag just to complete the run, then down to Prescott for dinner at the Taste of Prescott and a nights sleep. Ran the Spars down to Phoenix at 630am since I needed to be back in Phoenix by 8am. |

I am with Kobie, I will be up for a run up the Spars Looking forward to riding with you again Brian. On a reminder note, the weekend of Oktoberfest (oct 8th) is Fallfest at Firebird, bike demos and such, as much fun as Springfest was this looks to be just as good. |

I'll be here and ready to ride. Maybe we could hook up in Wickenburg. On the Firebird raceway subject... I've been itching to get to that myself. Maybe we should do a Buell invasion? For those that have done a trackday... How much time do you get on the track? Would we all be put in the beginner class? I'm pretty sure I would because I've never done a track day. |

You would due to not having a trackday or 3 under your belt. I can't afford the trackday as if I could afford it I would be hauling tail to Oktoberfest at the T-Dome. I am more interested in the Demo Rides. Hooking up in Wickenburg would be good as that is what we did last time, meet at the Chevron as your heading out 93 towards Prescott? (last gas station on the road out) Also getting an early start would be good for those of us coming out fromthe Valley to avoid the dry heat. |

Sounds good to me. What time should we meet there? The Demo rides do sound fun . I drove all the way down there last time and ended up being a little too late and the last of the rides were booked up... |

Brian what sounds good to you? If you want to meet up with the Phoenix folks lets figure out when and where. Wickenburg is about half hour or so out from my place, the ride is very straight and the later it gets the more lake traffic there is headed to Lake Pleasent. |

Phoenix and Tucson riders can meet at the Chevron station just East of the intersection of I-17 and the 74 (Carfree Hwy). Easy to find. Just head north out of Phoenix towards Flagstaf about 5 or 10 miles till you see the sign to 74/Carefree Hwy/Lake Pleasant turnoff and head East about 1/4 mile to the gas station. Wickenburg is only about 30-40 min. from there. Brian, You might think about leaving at about 6 or 630. We could use the extra hour start time. |

So... I'll be at the Chevron station as you are leaving Wickenberg at 8:30-8:40... What's the route? We could run the slab all the way up to Baghdad, then take the road from there that heads into Kirkland, then ride back over towards 89 so we can take the spars on the way into Prescott... Whatever works... We could just run the Prescott, Skull Valley, Kirkland, Wilhoit, Prescott Circle a few times... |

I'm up for any route except returning on I-17 South. Hate it. I have pretty much all day to play. If Brian leaves Tucson at 6, a realistic meet time in Wick. would be about 9. |
